1" Steerer Upgrade

I have an old Giant OCR 3 with a 1" steerer tube. The unfortunate thing is that it has a quill stem which apart from being very un-sexy is somewhat long for me, resulting in a very strethed out riding position.

What options are available to upgrade to an aheadset system? (No I'm not selling the whole bike and upgrading... Tongue )

Please excuse any errors on terminology, I'm not an equipment geek (yet)

Well, you just confused the hell out of me - which might mean you are more of an equipment geek than you think Wink

Wait around a while - not many of the oldies on the site today - but am sure you will be getting some plenty of good advice soon.

Good luck!

Depending on the model (year) it has a treaded fork. BBB do a 1" insert/adopter which should do the trick or upgrade to a carbon fork

Try your LBS - they should be able to get 1" forks as they are available still. A "quill adaptor" is also available which will enable you to use current design stems.

CycleLab told me that they can get a carbon fork with 1' steerer for about R900.

Contact Solomons in PTA North. They sell a carbon 1" Fork and the A- Headset "conversion kit" as well. Do yourself a favour and take your bike along. I had to go back three times to get the correct diameter cup to fit properly on my frame. This is imperative to have it fit snugly, otherwise the fit will be sloppy with lotsa play.

Conversion cost me just under R1000.00, all up.
