dealextreme import

I am trying to import some stuff from dealextreme. It should be free shipping to here, but I am not sure about the import tax.

If I buy 50$ worth of electronics from them, would it be worth shipping it from overseas? Can anyone tell me how the import tax works and is there anyone who imports from dealextreme who could give some advice?

you can work on +- R90 for every R500 spent.

If you keep your orders small, say under $50 then they sometimes don't even get VAT charged to them...

What everyone else said - had no problems with them on two orders - allow about three weeks for delivery...

Small value packages can sneak in for free. Out of 3 orders, 2 went great, the third took forever  and they split the shipment up ( in fact I just received the last component a week ago, was ordered in October, a mere

There are/were  local agents such as Dealspot.co.za, who do all of that admin for you, at a mark-up. Going through them was better in terms of timing and deliveries, as well as refunds if anything broke or exploded. But their shopping list has dropped considerably and they no longer do much electronics.

Search The Hub for the Dealextreme thread. You'll want to think twice before ordering from them.

Sometimes you'll pay VAT on the value, sometimes not. MOST times, customs will detain the parcel and send a slip to your PO box, informing you that an invoice is needed. That sometimes takes a week, and another week for customs to send it to you.

Just search the for the DX thread. It's not always bad, but if it's bad, be prepared to wait up to 2 months or more to receive your items. Everything shows as 'in stock' even if they can't even source the items... lessons learned...

There's alternatives to DX... what about eBay? on eBay a seller HAS to perform in order to avoid negative feedback...
