Gauteng - dead centre of SA?

So Gauteng is supposedly the economic hub of SA. It also has the largest population and the bright lights of Johannesburg and Pretoria not forgeting the gateway to SA,  Ortia international construction site (used to be known as JHB Int) and the Gravy Express (aka Gautrain). We get it all up here including snow!!

 

So, can anyone explain why there's no MTB racing here?

 

Both the Dome and now Bekker Schools races have been cancelled. I only heard today that my Saturday had suddenly now become raceless!!

I am sure some one has said this before - but don't you need mountains to mountain bike?

 

if you look at a map, we're kinda on top of one. ok, it's a really big one, and it isn't called a mountain. but come on, there's such beaut riding to be had here, who needs a race?

............. my driveway's 400m higher than that silly unfinished mountain down there, but do I market my diveway as a tourist attraction???

 

But I was wondering why there's so few mtb races up here

in the next coupla weeks there's the urban assault and the logwood classic and a rockhoppers 6-hour (unless it's been cancelled like the last one)

I have no riding plans for saturday, why don't we put together a 2 hour ride? Anyone in?

 

Only problem is that I won't be 'racing' but trying to keep to my HR zones!!
