Dick,

I agree that it was easy to miss CP3, but the rule book clearly stated that the route is unmarked and that riders must navigate as well as race.  That is part and parcel of the Trans Baviaans idea!  Blaming the organisers is a bit harsh, don't you think?

I rode with the map book and new that checkpoint 3 was around the bend and looked out for it. If you are one of the top teams I suggest getting a GPS if you are a bit clueless when it comes to navigating!  They even gave the GPS waypoints in the booklet and were accurate with the distances stated for checkpoints.

After checkpoint five we had about 10 riders standing at the Humansdorp turnoff asking whether it was the correct turnoff.  Again, I grabbed the (very well laid out) directions in the booklet and told them to relax and went off.  The same thing happened at the fork at the top of the Never ender.  One guy shot off and we shouted to get him back on track.  Saved him a lot of time, but if he had gone on it would have been his own fault!

If you are representing sponsors I really think you need to take the organisers instructions seriously to give your sponsors value for money.  It was very clearly stated where the stops were and they should have noticed that after they got to stop 4 at least (seeing that they missed stop 3's token)

Saying that, I agree with you that their performance was awesome!  For a mixed team it was an amazing feet and everyone was incredibly impressed.  Well done and my sympathies, but please don't skip next year because of the navigational issues.  It is still an incredible event and Hannelie and co are an incredible bunch of riders.

ja ja...try too look less busy next time and i'll maybe come over.

I wasn't busy - I was super nervous.

Concerning checkpoint 3 - I have ridden TransBaviaans 4 times now, and we missed checkpoint 3 as well. A little sign would have been great.

Only my second time and I found it, I did take the wrong turn up at the top of never ender though, oh well. Hanlie and MC knew that they had missed it by the time they were on the Bergplaas climb.

This was my first TB, and I didn't miss any checkpoints. I found the booklet of instructions very easy to understand.

I wasn't sponsored, so there wasn't any presure on that side, and our aim was to finish not to get a podium position. I have sympathy for all riders who missed a CP or turn and ended up riding a much longer race.
