The only law regarding nite riding is that u may not enter after sunset... Reading between the lines this means that as long as you enter before sunset, then legally your are not in the wrong. Thats my argument if i ever get s questioned by a San Parks representative.

Dangerous thinking, regardless of the context. People who race their pimped cars with flashy wheels at night are also just having fun... this is totally different!!!! again endangering others lives!! racing carson the road is illegal!! mtbING @ night is not illegal!

 

Have you thought about what would happen if someone went off a cliff at night when the rules prohibited riding there in the first place? Joe public hears about this, lobbies the powers that be and demands that no one should be allowed to ride anywhere in Tokai at night, for their own safety. Fun over.

Yes, much like you could have a vehicle accident day or night, drunk or not, without a license or not.

 

If it happens while drunk or without a license however, you're on your own (no medical aid, no vehicle insurance, etc). These same rules apply to most things; accidents are acceptable occurences under normal circumstances, but not when in breach of rules/regulations/laws.

I fear this topic may be in the process of being hijacked.... This post was started to try and encourage a fun loving group of people that enjoy night riding to get together for regular safe night mountain biking rides. Eg: Safety in numbers, as with diving in the sea.

 

This group was not started in order to debate legality or safety issues regarding riding at night etc. Life is not safe and totally unpredictable. If anyone believes that it is wrong, illegal or does not agree with this form of riding then that is his/her opinion, which they are welcome to. Rather then, please do not join us, as we are all keen, passionate cyclists of pretty much the same sentiment and we are looking for like minded individuals to have fun with and to exchange friendships.

I was simply pointing out that it's tricky to get respect and backing for something if you don't stick to its rules. Much like it's difficult for us to get respect from motorists if we keep jumping red lights...

Yip, This is the same group that meets at the Total garage, Tokai Road most Thursdays at 18:30pm... Its been re-branded "Tokai night rides" as some people may not support Bridge Cycles.

 

We thought the "neutral" approach would be better
