You can export the routes from Training Centre to Mapsource.

To do that you need to save the route as a .gpx file, and then import into Mapsource.

Thanks Pezule, I am aware that you can do this, but I am not keen on this importing exporting and importing again, this all happened automatically with my 305

Garmin Device Support

Import .FIT files directly from the Garmin Edge 500, 310XT, and others.

We have to clarify with what they mean "Import Directly" - yes you can import directly from the Edge if you browse through a couple of folders. With other units you simply click import and the rest happens. So it still doenst do what I want it to do!

like so, all my race routes together

Looks useful. What does this all cost? I assume you need to buy the Garmap application and then the maps as well?

I use TrainingPeaks. Works well. I store the important rides on Google Earth though. Otherwise very helpful regarding Power analysis.

And one button imports it. :P

The cost is just high but worth it if you are going to use the power meeter to it's full potential!

I got Mapsource with an Nuvi200 unit a while ago. You will be able to use it with the Edge range but then it will only give you a PC-Base map, not a lot of detail. But what you can then do is buy one of the Garmin Map updat CD's for around R90 and that will unlock the full map function.

Download it here

Just be aware that buying the CD doesn't unlock the full SA maps. You still need to buy an unlock code (~R900) or have a garmin GPS that came with SA maps (e.g. car GPS, some Edge 705s).

Edit: The CD's only R20 though.

Sorry Tankman, not really been on the forums lately, assignments up my ass !

I haven't really explored the options so far as software goes, at the moment im only using TC and Connect.

'Eendag op `n reendag' when I've got some time I'll play around a bit. I know I'm not really using the 500 to its full potential, but such is life ;)

Dude I agree with you fully! And you now need the Garmin Communicator Plugin installed (From Garmin website) else it doesn't work with the 301/305/705's either :(

quick question with the 500, is it possible to load mapss from google maps onto the unit or is it not possible to load any maps onto the 500?

looking at either the 500 or 705 but not sure how often i will need to load and follow maps

Mark my uderstanding is that you can only download maps to the 705 and then they must be the Garmin ones, you can off course download and follow courses on the 301/305 and 500.

Please share the link. found it.

did you see ST 3.0 will cost you R260.00

Which is well worth it!

Just buy it and support a well done product.

I did, that is how I got ST3.0

I am still using my trusty 305 so can't help with the MapSource issue.

I also store some data in MapSource, but it is not a problem at all finding rides in ST if you name it properly when you import it. There are various ways of filtering / reporting the data.

Mark, you can't load any maps onto the Edge 500. Locally bought Edge 705s usually come preloaded with Garmap's SA Streetmaps. You can also upgrade the streetmaps to the more detailed Topo and Rec map for around R300.

I believe it is possible to load custom or open source maps onto the 705, though I don't think you can load Google Maps.
