Nope the Argus is a protest ride and thus the use of the Freeway !!! Or maybe was in 1978!

Now car are not allowed to use that road on the 2nd Sunday of march each year - so maybe the wheel is turning slowly!

I don't normally use the M3 for training as it is so barring and Illegal, but when I do I feel safer than on the main road due to the nice wide shoulder - maybe the laws should change quicker that every day in a cycle tour day - just like our ex presidents slogan was make every day N M day!

the 1st 15 k's of the argus is on a freeway , are you telling me we are taking part in a illegal activity every year? and if we are killed we won't be able to hold the organisers liable????

It's an organised event, with permission from the relevant authorities and full road closure to allow for the participants. Vastly different scenario.

........ nice try butafly!!!!!!!!!

No. Certain of the rules are waived if you're taking part an officially sanctioned race. Likewise it is not illegal to ride in a large bunch spanning the entire left side of the road during a normal race.

......... only if their are full road closure!!!!!!!! ....... otherwise you are also breaking rules.

On a related note... I was sitting in the M5 queue this afternoon trying to get on the N1 when I saw about 4 or 5 guys on the other side of the road coming from the N1 direction. That's just looking for trouble!! At the moment the N1/M5 interchange is tricky even when you're in a car, nevermind on a bike! That was a very good example of cyclists being stupid...

I normaly try not to get involved in this p!ssing contests, but here goes.

Butafly, are you daft or just trying to show your ignorance. Of course it is legal to cycle on a Freeway when it is an organised event with the relevant authorities's (sic) permission.(road closure et al.) Any other time it is illegal.

There, plain and simple.

i'm sorry to say but you are missing the point i am trying to make to Big H.... go & read his response to my 1st post where he states "it is illegal to cycle on a freeway" PERIOD. in his eagerness to belittle and show his superior knowledge he forgot to add "provided you have permission" after freeway.

Look, i agree with it not beeing legal but if you cycle on the M4 between Ballito and Durban it's scary, some places there are no shoulder and ovegrown bushes that force you to ride where the cars travel,they attempted to put up signs to warn motorists but they are so hidden they might just as well remove them, then when you use the R102 that's even more scary and believe me we lost a few cyclists on both roads, myself was knocked down at least 5 times and the authorities are doing nothing about it, we use the N2 occasionally as well, but early in the mornings, i think we all do things elegally, wether it's speeding or after a beer or 2 till you get caught, so each to their own

No one gets upset just pissed off that you guys cannot even have a decent debate about anything without it getting personal. Threads that could be of intrest to others gets jacked by ppl calling each other names , Its like kids arguing in a play ground.

Pure pedantics and yes and I stand on that point...... it IS illegal to cycle on a freeway.

This topic has been discussed over and over since the start of the Hub and you will always in these posts without fail the same type of wisecracks who will either fight what is a rule or insist they are the same as drunkards, speeding taxis and lorries.

And thank God I am blessed with superior knowledge.

And leet22 ...... if you teach somebody something and he/she/it stubbornly refuses to listen..... what is he?????? Very easy to say and answer.

Don't worry what they Buta...I get it....everything that is illegal is illegal UNLESS you have permission..... is'nt that what you tried to say... and who said that house of paint did NOT have permission?

I agree fully with you **** (edit D!ck ..... my goodness your name is a swearword!!!!, you should report this to Admin!!!!!)but the people who make the laws do not think so...... they say the speed differential between bucylces and cars ar the limiting factor. When you confront them with a normal road like the Rooi Els road that has no dicernable shoulder and is extremely unsafe they just shurg their shoulders.

No it is not, I is Englishhh and in the land on the who know why

Robert = Bob

Richard = ****

William = Bill

Whi I know not, but that is what they call me often. Sometimes because of this and other times as ppl feel I am one.

But it is my cross and I carry it with me.
