CO2 Bombs- Are they all the same?..

Had a puncture today (ironically after commenting to my partner on Tuesday about how long it has been since I had one!), anyway, after fixing the puncture I tried to pump the tube but the slime had 'stuck' it together (2nd time this has happened to me and its painfully annoying!), oh well I thought, just use a bomb, screwed one on and pffft, pffffffftt, pfffffffffffffffffftttttt, useless! Chucked it, tried another one and one long pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttttttttttttttttttttt - tyre inflated! The first one was a cheap Rav X one, the second one was a Giant one (bought it along with another bomb and the head unit about 4 months ago). I thought they were all the same but it appears cheap is nasty as usual, anyone else had this kind of problem? It was almost as though there was not enough pressure.

A one off then? I must say I am the kind of guy who buys something brand new and the next day whatever it is doesn't work! I will give them (RavX) the benefit of the doubt and try them again, but I will buy one cheapie and one better known brand!

I had that once happen to me, it was a no name brand cannister and I think my valve was dirty or clogged up with slime, slime can be very nasty some times as it can block valves etc, hence maybe the 1st bomb not working. From what I have heard most of the Co2 cannisters come from 1 or 2 of the same factories and they make Co2 cannisters for world distribution, and these are used in air guns and bicycle spares etc. One thing I do stay away from is the Co2 cannister that has no sticker or covering on, nothing worse when your hand is hot and sweaty and you use the bomb and and your finger sticks to the cold cannister and you get that little skin burn and that burning sensation stays with you for the rest of your ride.

Personally I think they are all the same cannisters just with the different branding on it, but hey that is just my opinion

Bought a pack of canisters just the other day and each one was indivdually wrapped in a thin sheet of foam rubber, which i thought was a good idea so that your fingers don't freeze when you use it and so they don't rattle when you pack them in your pockets or saddlebag. I can't say I've ever had a problem with any that I've bought previously.

I did clean up the head unit so maybe the problem was there. By the way the puncture actually originated from the tyre liners, when I bought them the ends were taped back down onto the liner, after opening, cutting and fitting them, where the sellotape residue was, the dirt and stuff that rolls around inside the tyre stuck where the tape had been and rubbed through the tube! Lesson learnt!

A old road tube cut to the length of the bom works well for the freez and rattle part

I keep my old tubes for this. I cut a piece of tube and slide the bomb inside it. Then they dont rattle in the saddle bag or freeze your hand when you use them,

The old tyre trick works well...OR just wrap a couple of windings of duct taep around eack bomb...you can then use the duct tape for various emergencies (even as big plaster to wrap a nasty cut till you get back to civilisation!)

A bomb is a bomb is a bomb...all come fromthe same factory in China I think...so it's only the 12/ 16g that can be different.

Maybe just a dud?

I think the answer is in your original post.

The first one was 12g coz it only went pffft, pffffffft and the second one went pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttttttt - the second one obviously had way more gas in it!!! and must have been 16g!!!

No, but seriously I am so cheapskate that women have to make me drunk to score - i only buy 'el-cheap'os and have never been let down (the women wish they could say the same!).
