How do you guys know these pressures are accurate? I have 2 different pumps and a pressure guage, and they all read different pressures. As much as 15% variance. I now just squeeze the tyre, and make sure its a bit squisshy!!!

Stop buying pumps from Game. :D

Don't go that high. I run at about 1.4-1.6 and weigh 78kg. More grip with lower pressure. (It also increased my speed dramatically over soft sand).

I have never had a burp or any other problems.

+1 :)

I run at about 1.6 front (monorail) & about 2 bar at the back (crossmark), I weigh 80kg.

tinker: if u gonna jack up the pressure to stop pinchflats, then just relax your compressoin on the fork abit to make it more plush, but up the rebound slightly.

If the riding is skittish, generally means your tire is a bit hard. But really, it comes down to personal preference. Some luv the feeling of ripping it on the edge.

For traction, lower the pressure. THen again, I use DH casings in 2.5s, not exactly XC class stuff.

I once bought a fancy ARB 4x4 tyre pressure gauge, cost me a fair bit of money (R250), my Checkers R19.99 reads exactly the same!!!

Capricon, the last guy who called me tinker is still on his way up the hill eating my dust! :P

BUT, will take your advise and lower my tyre pressure in front on tomorrow's ride and see what a difference it makes down the black at Contermans.

Will let you know if it made a difference! (thanks)

I have a tubeless conversion, NON UST tyres and rims on a hardtail.

I weigh in at 78kg and found 1.9 bar back & 1.8 bar front works well for me on average for all terrain.

Going lower on the pressure I had pressure loss (burping) on the back wheel when doing fast heavy rocky downhill (XC) as the back wheel takes quite a pounding.

Maybe able to run lower pressure on soft tails or tubeless rims fitted with UST tyres?
