I need to pick disc rotors for my new wheelset and would appreciate some feedback on real experience with Aligator discs compared to the Avid Clean Sweep G3? The Aligator Windcutters are priced very well and apparently are lighter, but I would like to know about performance and pad life (subjectively it looks like a pad muncher). For what its worth, the rest of the hardware that I am running: Juicy 7s

Thanks

I have the windcutter, they don't seem to wear the pad any more that the original Tektro disc did. I do find they bend quite easily and are sometimes noisy but otherwise they seem to perform fine. I just went one size up from my original 160 Tektro discs to 180 wind cutter (only on the front). They stop me and I am 105kg odd, I also just use the standard Tektro brake pads, nothing fancy.

I just had to replace me G3 203mm rotor...R400 later :P

I was also wondering about the Alligator, but my bike mechanic friend reckons the G3 gets better power out of the brakes.I think he also mentioned something about pad life.

Anyway, dunno if that helps much.

I use the Windcutters with Shimano organic pads. With over 2000km there is still more then half of the pads left. Have not had any problems with bending discs. No noise either. I use mine for XC and have a 140mm on the back. Last year it was the only ones I could find that made 6-bolt 140mm. I now see the G3 are available in that size but more then twice the price.

No sorry Griffin, was looking for 203mm's in red. The best answer that i got was have it costom sprayed. Depends on where you are situated but there is a bike shop in Centurion, Gauteng that can do it for not that much...
