When?

Yesterday.

To whom do you need to talk?

The authorities, i.e. government and Metro.

Do they care?

No.

So change it on your own time and IN YOUR OWN THREAD. This thread is to pay homage........

I you want, I can create one FOR YOU......

And IF and WHEN you did create this thread (As per previous 5 million before you) please let us know the following:

  • What is your game plan in changing awareness
  • How to approach and discuss issues with Government
  • What must we as hubbers, that represents about 3% (discussed in another forum) of SA cycling, do to change all this?

I wish you luck!

As a note.....put some nude pics and jokes in your thread because hubbers are more prone to concentrate on that than cycling safety!!!!!!!

Well said spinnekop. The problem is its not really a risk to get caught doing crime in this country anymore. So once theres harsher punishment things will get better, but that won't happen, so the crime won't stop!

@spinnekop... the title to this thread is "Another cyclist killed...When will it stop??", which to me is an invitation to discussion, the person posting was posting a news report. What I posted was my personal opinion, and as you're entitled to yours, so am I to mine. There were a few posts before mine that brought up cyclists safety, so why I was singled out, and since this post seemed to be started by a news article, why/when did it suddenly become a homage? Naturally I want to reply to your last post, because in my humble opinion I believe you're missing the point, but in this case I will agree with you (and only in this point) that this is not the time nor place for you and I to have a slinging match against one other.

I do want to say this though... when has any government seen eye to eye on what the people want? If you want your government to change their attitude on anything, you got to get up and say so, this is how it's always been! Attitudes will not change if we all sit and do nothing.

As for starting a new thread for this, I think there is one around here somewhere so I'll try and find it, if not I'll happily start one.

The driver must be locked away for life.

And our tax money pay for her board and lodging. I think they should reinstate the death penalty as this was blatant disregard for authority and life !

RIP fellow cyclist !

This is a tragic accident and our deepest condolances to the family and friends.

From an event organisers perspective, Road closures are easier said then done, especially on that Midmar Dam road. We have organised numerous races from Midmar and still organise the Midlands Ultra Triathlon there, which uses a similar route. The Police unfortunately won't give our triathletes road closure either, as they say there is no alternative route.

However from what I have seen from the Durban Metro Police, is that the more pressure we put on them, the closer we are to closing the roads for events. It has happened to our Durban events, so now Howick must follow suit.

We will do all we can to make events safer and I know all other organiser will do so to, as its our number 1 concern on the day.

We will take this up with the Howich Police and RTI for all 2011 events.

We would be much better off if we care about the living. The tearing of clothes and throwing of ash on our heads is more a manifestation of our own guilt. RATHER CARE FOR THE LIVING!!!!!!!!!

The police at the Midmar did not do his job. Marshal was not paying attention. We put our lives in the hands of race organisers who need to be held responsible for the negligence of those employed by them. Marshals at the Tweedie intersection were sitting on the roadside, possibly asleep, when I came past with my wife not a minute after Olive had gone past. First on the scene after wife saw the accident ahead of us. Police then parked his car in middle of road. Paramedic on scene was not well equipped and qualified for advanced life support, not that he could have saved Olive after the head on collision.

Amashova Organisers. Do we get road closure from Thornville to Umlaas road or do we have to dodge oncoming vehicles in the mist again?

I happen to know Sister Oliver Knight very well. She was our resident professional nurse at our company, working under Life Hospitals. What a caring and compassionate soul she was. I can clearly remember when i had my epileptic fit here at work not too long ago,she was the one who called Netcare 911 for me and even when i came back from hospital she kept on enquiring about my condition if i've improved and she also organised Epilepsy S.A to do a presentation here at work for all staff so they know how to deal with someone living with chronic epilepsy..Just last week Thursaday evening she was on my case that i over work myself by finishing work late evenings instead of going home like everybody. A sad loss indeed to our company and also the cycling community as a whole..Yesterday as her office (which is our clinic) was getting cleared i couldnt hold back my tears as im not a person who usually cries easily..but ey,such is life..May her dear sould rest in peace..!!!..Gone too soon..

Really hits home when it is someone you know and not just another name...sorry for your loss and prayers to her loved ones.

It will never stop unless people respect the law,

This will only happen when our leaders show the way...and if anything is pie in da sky then that is....

so we gotta shake the powers that be by the scruff of their neck and start to strike , protest as a civilised people and say enough is enough, am I trying to start civil unrest...maybe... But WHAT is it gonna take to get this country back on track....????
