I cant get the footage without a police case. Once the police case is open, I still cant get the footage ... it has to be viewed by a police officer and he will then decide if its worth following up etc. I am going to try, but based on past experience, since I am not badly injured I will receive a priority of zero.

Ive been toying with the idea of taking footage like this and showing taxi drivers what happens when they dont look out for cyclist. They spend some time at ranks having their deathtraps washed and making just one guy notice cyclist more could help..

My take out is to be as alert as one can be on a bike because you'll never know when a taxi decides to out of the blue and ruin a perfectly good day !!

shifter Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Thank heavens you not to badly injured...I didn't come off so lucky...1x Taxi hit and run= 1x broken shoulder...5x broken ribs onto the lungs..1x fractured Fiscium...1x fractured ankle...And soon to be a knee replacement.1x written off bicycle. Hope you recover soon, because the bruises are sure to start coming out.

Apemanscolony Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Yeah the taxis suck. they think the roads belong to them. I agree, kick the taxi full of holes and get going again. Mtb is safer though, u can jump on the pavement etc if **** looks like gonna hit the fan.

Glad youre ok though I am a big guy on a large bike, with a bright yellow First Accent top. He saw me, just took a hell of chance and cut it to close. I don't think there is anything that could stop a situation like this... They don't care, life is a bit cheap ... Yesterday a golden arrow bus cut past me a bit close and then immediately braked and pulled into the curb cutting me off such that I had to get off the bike. I punched the bus, rode round to the drivers window and gave him hell ... got the blank look.. The particular piece of road (northern boundary of century city) where this occurred is just short of where I was hit today. The taxis and buses drop people off exactly where its not designed to handle that sort of activity. Not a cop in sight ... ever

I cant see any happy scenarios in that case ... I ride a motorbike as well. A few months ago a teenage taxi driver being pursued by the cops in Cape Town went straight through a circle and hit another motorcyclist. I arrived a few moments later, and having some paramedic training tried to help save the guys life. Externally he was OK (Lost his right foot) , but internally he must have been a mess. Sadly he died whilst I was still supporting his neck and the first paramedics had arrived and pumped him full of adrenaline etc. I think this morning I was so relieved that this was not me I just wanted to get out of the situation as fast as possible and have a shower etc. I don't think I handled it correctly, but its easier to see that now once the adrenaline etc has worn off.

We were harrassed by ppl in a car while on a training ride. They tried to scare us by revving the car and accellerating towards us a few times... then drove away, got out of the car and waited for us, tried to hit us off the bike 3 times. (at night) We didn't get hurt, but it could've been serious had they hit us. We opened a case (huge frustration and time wasting for us) but in the end they were arrested and had to appear in court. They learned their lesson... So report it... before it happens to someone else...
