With December around the corner I should have some free time on my hands... so I reckon, wouldn't it be fun to hit up a different trail every day, for a whole week!?

I'm thinking:

Monday: Meerendal

Tuesday: Contermanskloof

Wednesday: Hillcrest

Thursday: Jonkershoek

Friday: Tokai

Saturday: Oak Valley

Sunday: Lebanon

I could even combine Contermanskloof and Hillcrest into 1 day, and fit another one in. Eden? Majik Forest? Delvera? Grabouw MTO?

Anyone want to join me?

well it really depends how long you want to ride each day.

tygerberg(hillcrest/makil/meerendal/conters) could all be done in 2 days

stellenbosch(jonkers, delvera, coetzenberg eden) has two days in it

tokai/silvermine is a good day out

grabouw (mto/oak valley/lebanon/groenlandberg)is a big 2days

welvanpas + paarlrock is another big day

there you have 8 days solid riding, you could do 600kms without going over the same tracks.

yeah I hear you - forgot to mention, I still need to work those days! I just work from home, and December is quiet, so I can afford a couple of hours off in the morning if I get an early start

Damn ... 8 days at 600km, all in the Western Cape and close to eachother ... there is your own December Epic at a fraction of the cost :)

Could you define early start and from where would you start.

I live in the Table View area and would like to do some of those rides, being on leave from the 16th December. \

I ask the start time as it being the festive season I will be spending lots of time with the family.

I'd look at getting to each trail by car (I live in the northern suburbs) to hit the trail at 7 at the latest (that includes the Grabouw / Elgin area trails)

I'd probably do the Friday trail in the afternoon...

Your plan sounds by far better then entering a R15k per rider race. Would rather drop that kind of money on luxury living, R2k and some change per day, while cruising different trails for 7 days.

epic has its place as a race and an opportunity to brag about riding with the top pros(for the first 500m)

if you think you do epic for the riding then you need to think again.

the highlights of 2010 race:

welvanpas farm(which they skipped all the good stuff) - ~R25 permit

kluitjieskraal - ~R20permit in wolseley

eselfontein - just phone deon and ride

groenlandberg - ~R20 permit at nuweberg

oak valley - ~R30 at entrance

lebanon - ~R25 at oaklane cottages

grabouw/mto - ~R25 permit at oude molen now

figures are guesstimates, but that's R150 in trail fees

for 2011 we have

tokai - R25

groenlandberg - ~R20 permit at nuweberg

oak valley - ~R30 at entrance

lebanon - ~R25 at oaklane cottages

grabouw/mto - ~R25 permit at oude molen now

taking out esels was the dumbest thing they've ever done imho. should just get some bike trailers and shuttle people there from tulbagh for a stage. - or is that an unnecessary cost to add value?
