MMMMMMM naughty naughty never come down the first climb it is a one way and gives us a bad rep with the parks board for not obeying reserve rules - you will also be in for a few choice words from other cyclists - as well as the danger factor.

It was the first time in SBR, guess I was so glad to see that road that I never saw the no entry sign and just went down, no one else saw it - except the rider who I was with. we couldnt understand why the rest of our group took so long to finish... :)

@ Scotty - never tried a second loop or redoing the cheetah loop

For now 1 is enough punishment

One day when I can do a 2:10 or faster, I will attempt another.

So its still plenty time for that - still 3 mins off that target :(

Know the place very well - love it there :D. Just have to watch out for the staff vehicles travelling in the wrong direction

Awesome hill training  + just being there is "chicken soup for the soul" :D

well gonna be there sunday if anyone riding please say hey

Marek (and anyone else) - we'll be riding from the parking lot at the hotel from ~7H15 on Sunday. Should do a 2h45ish depending on if the roadies can keep up with us on our mtbs :D

The more the merrier.

I'm the tall, shaven headed dude in a black Volvo. Blue/white Shimano Lake Pro kit and MonoQ bike. Come over say hi and ride with us. I'll be with a tall tattoo'd freak and a cute blonde girl.

If I was asked for any tips about SBR.... Take lots of water and sunscreen, it gets very hot out there!

Stick to the route direction

Dont litter

Watch out for loose stones (speak from experience here as i had a front wheel blow out on one of the sharp declines)

Dont relieve yourself in the bush

Obey the parks officials and rules

And

Dont try sneak any animals out the reserve, they do check you car and boot.

Don't go too fast down "the descent" - park vehicles travel the wrong way and a few of the corners are blind. It's tough to brake I know but the accident earlier in the year is a stark reminder of who wins in a car versus bike head on...

Did all my training for 2 x IM and 1 x Epic in the place.

Have done plenty of doubles

Best so far was 4 laps in 1 weekend (full)

Going there next weekend to do my first attempt with Daughter on the ol Tandem of course to prepare for 94.7

That place is great and my best time is 2:14 just before my Epic 09

Just be carefull if you doing MTB only and then change to Roadie for 94.7 as the gearing will stuff you around.

I ride standard cranks and 11/23 cassette and this is way harder and much faster than the MTB.

Awesome ride and just be carefull of annimals crossing over roads.

Also found that correctly so vehicles will park around blind corners and look for animals.

Respect evreryone including yourself in this place and ALWAYS have water and a charged cellphone with you.

See you all in the park

Its really a great place to ride, although last year there was some traffic problems and accidents, with cars coming the wrong way.

That last big climb is an excellent workout, the gradient is more that anything you will encounter on the 94.7

hey guy been doing suikerbos nature ride for the past few weekend do you think the whole route is good training for 94.7 ???

It's good for any training. I know of a few hubbers who trained there for the Jock.

It is an awesome place to ride. Quiet with little traffic some awesome scenery and views. The best place to ride a bike. Just be very careful about loons going the wrong way and if you happen to crash, it's a long way to find help nd get to hospital.

I ask only that you treat the reserve with respect by not littering (especially those foil wrappers) try not to get in the way of the few motorists you may come across and who know, we may be able to continue to ride there for a long time to come.

Was a time recently when we came close to being banned from there altogether and that would be a crying SHAME.

cool thanks wanna do 94.7 in less than 3*45 did the loop 2*35 was wondering if that on par ?

I don't know much about the route for this years 94.7, but I was doing a 2h35 to 2 hr 50 loop of SBR and I managed a 3hr 14 94.7 last year. So your sub 3:45 should be a shoe in.

Same for me.

That's also what I consider to a be a full loop.

If you want to warm up before the first climb, ride down to the gate and back: this gives about 15-20min of riding before you hit the hard stuff.

Doing a couple of repeats around the small loop (right at the top of thefirst climb) is a good way to incrementally add distance without having to commit to doing the full loop again.
