Hi guys

i was wondering what the demand is like for a xc racing series, is there alot of interest in xc racing or is the majority of mtb riders into marathon races?

cross country is cool totally different kind of riding than marathon, can be exciting doing laps esepecially if the terrain is cool not sure if you guys have ridden at groens and fountains in pretoria nice stuff

i must say i was expecting a little more response than four members, i was thinking of looking at the feasibility of starting a xc series but i have to determine what the response would be and if this is it then im going to scrap the idea right off the bat, i thought that xc would bring a whole new dynamique to mountain biking in SA

Start a poll. Not every member of the hub wants to post an update

like all events(series) it will take time before people support it in the masses, but im sure it will be quite a success if you can keep it running for about 3-4 years on one with a good sponsor

XC racing is nice but some routes are just to techincal for the avg. MTBer like me.

and then there is no space for overtaking...

If you are strong enough to overtake...you will. somehow the manage on the world cup circuit.

If riders want to develop their skills and racing and want to get to where Burry is...then there is only one way... and that's to have proper technical XC races, get used to them, get fast, and get noticed.

organising them should be easier too...all you need is 4-5km of track. Not 50km and land permission from 4 farm owners...

Did my first XC lap race this year in the SS class and I loved it.

The format of racing seems to have suffered due to the popularity of the Marathon riding, but it really has so much potential.

As a family everyone can participate ... heck my 5 year old was running next to me handing me water bottles in the pouring rain.

If all in the family ride then the fact that there are class specific races is great as you can support the kids when they ride and then they can later support the parents again.

There is a good opportunity to generate funds through sales of food and beverages throughout the day .... but we need to get the numbers of people there and they in turn wan't some form of entertainment ... even a simple thing like a jumping castle means alot to the younger kids and this in turn means alot to the parents.

Next year I will be doing the whole WP XC series.

I will also be keen. Not taking part in the national series because I do not want to keep the top buys up. Been doing the Karkloof XC races the part couple of years and it is totally awesome. Would like to do a amateur series.

Go for it and good luck!

kzn has a xc series and its awesome!!!!

i have enjoyed the marathon styled races where you could enjoy the ride at your own pace until i entered a xc event at giba gorge, it was extremely exciting. supporters thoughout the course. adrenalin pumping, family cheering you on. although some might find xc racing a bit scary cos of the technical nature ot the riding, remember that on the world xc series, those riders also get off the bike and run through some technical sections.

now based in jhb, so count me in for a xc series!!
