Good luck with that the only thing google with spew at you is about the 29'er being recalled, Before i bought my anthem i spoke to two people on about their seatpost joints cracking, both of those individuals had their seatposts above the maximum length, I cant comment on the 2011 range though. On the flip side i give an A to giant for recalling, Just do a search on the hub for scott's with cracked chainstays and you will realize there is a definite manufacturing error. Yet scott couldnt be botherd to recall.

Regardless I love my bike, and yesterday zooming down the single track i found myself telling my bike just how much i love her as i landed from a poorly judged jump and she saved my ass again.

Just specify a date 2007 - 2010 in Google to get more meaningful results.

"...i found myself telling my bike just how much i love her...." ....that is sweet man. Just don't break her!

I weigh 100 kgs had my Anthem x 29er XL two months and hammered it. Dont know if you know but all Giant frames have a lifetime replacement guarantee, regardless of year. Whats the fuss its awesome, lighter and a lot more affordable than the frames shown above!!! Theres no time to hesitate.

According to the internet, if you look for the info, the ratio in this case is far, far higher than any other manufacturer's recall rate - almost 80 percent of the frames have had to be returned and replaced.

Don't believe me? You shouldn't. I made it up just like you made up your bit about the return rate on the Anthem X1s. And the bit about the 26er bikes, which I see was nonsense too. If you had found it on the www, you would, surely, not have a problem posting some links here so the rest of us can make up our minds too?

Now, if you show me your sources then I can believe you, until then I can only presume you bought the placating story you were told by your bike shop. Or you work for Giant and are trying some clever damage control.

Don't work for Giant. Neither did I save the multiple links that I used. I just own one after doing the research. The only diff is that I know how to use the internet. You just get's a lot of hits on the frame issue due to the fact that Giant USA has only now added the recall to it's news page. I did my investigation while this was hot news and I set my timelines in the search.

Just for information. Giant has not recalled the bikes. It is the consumer authority in the US that decided that the bikes are not fit. Visit some US blogs and you will see how upset the MTBikers are. No frame failed - the process however works in the US that anybody can report anything to this authority. I won't be surpriced if it came from one of those other US brands that is a couple of Rk more expensive.

If you need convincing - do your own homework - still doubtfull, I don't care - result will just be a person that does not benefit from what I found. :P

I would love a report on how you find the bike. How does it compare to your Specialized Stumpjumper? I know it is two different bikes! I also know the Specialized is almost double the price.

Since having mine, I had 5 people storming me after the last Babbas race to get info/feedback. During yesterdays Nissan van Gaalens event, at least 20 people were commenting/discussing it with me in the race.

My feedback to all - if you can afford one, don't wait, get one, it's awesome. :D

DragonsSportsSA Just to clarify, The Giant Anthem X 29er recall does not affect SA. All Anthem X 29er frames/bikes that are in SA were from the second batch

And why would you not, the US gets their new model bikes 2-3 months before we do. If the recall pertains to the the first batch it makes sense that we would only get the latter batches. Besides they are a US based company they won't be allowed to export any product deemed unsafe.

Rob i hear ya, I dont care much for sales people either. But if anyone contacts Dragon sports they would be legally obliged to tell you if your frame is one of those batches that have been recalled, or you would have a really nice lawsuit if you fell due to the seatpost cracking. I doubt they would open themselves up for such a lawsuit.

Yup the Anthem X29er is a very different machine to my Sworks Stumpie, more plush, 2kgs heavier, but as a tall 1.9m cyclist a much prefer the Giants ride comfort and geometry. Dont think one can compare the two as the design ethos is very different. But for your average outrides and XC races that are not very technical, the anthem 29er is my choice! and half the price.

Be nice to be able to keep both, two different horses. But need to save my marriage first.

Thanks for the positive feedback and comments. We sent this info out to the dealers earlier this week but there is still some confusion.

"Please take note of the following:

There is a recall on a limited number of Anthem X 29er bikes sold in the United States. None of the units sold in South Africa will be subject to this recall.

Also note that the White/Blue Anthem X 29er was a special order from our side. This made it possible for us to get some stock at an earlier date and is not related to any recall.

Regards

Dragons Team"
