Hi Guys,

Need some help!

I bought a new bike and gloves(bike has white bar tape).

I washed the gloves by hand using sunlight soap(the green bar), I saw they were giving off some color and washed them a second time. Let them dry and used them the next day. I was horrified to find the gloves totally ruined my handle bar tape(stained blueish/black).

I washed the gloves several more times and every time they give of color.

I then sent the distributor an e-mail about the above disaster! They generously offered to replace gloves and bar tape, I took them up on the offer today.

This time I machine washed the gloves as distributor recommended. Then tested them on old bar tape, same result they give off color!

My question is this, how many times must I wash them? I would think once would be enough! After all what is the use buying new gloves only to wash them "stukkend"!

Any recommendations/comments will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Ps

There was no washing or care instructions on the packaging or the gloves.

If you go the white bar tape route it's best to get the decent tape (not the cheapish cork type)... I've got fizik tape and the dirtyness just wipes away no problems... fizik is relatively expensive, but worth it IMO.

I plan on getting the fizik tape, but what if the gloves stain them? My problem is to stop the gloves giving of color without washing them till they fall apart!

The only way I could get the stained tape nearly white again was to place paper towel soaked in jik on it and leaving overnight.

White bar tape is great for pro's, their bar tape gets changed alot, if you're not a pro use black. Pretty easy solution, glad I could help.

I don't wear gloves when I'm training on the road - I don't like the tan lines... but for race day I always wear gloves :)

I have a pair of Giro Monaco gloves and every time I ride in the wet my hands are stained black for at least a day afterwards  I don't expect that from such expensive gloves!

Chuck those cheapskate gloves away and buy something decent. In another months time they are going to look as faded and tatty as a third hand thrift store t-shirt and will totally spoil you whole image dude!

My gloves are X-ZAKT ones, much cheaper!

But still, how long will the color come out?

I think the makers should at least put care instructions on the gloves! And warn that they could stain white tape!
