Early morning for some of us this morning...... our's started at 3am sharp dressed in winter kit from a chest warmer right down to shoes covers!!!!

It rained from CT all the way to Rawsonville, needless to say I was in the right mind set, for a change so nothing was going to stop me getting my very 1st 190K ride under the belt!!!!!  I thought everyone was going to ask me if I knew something they didn't by my dress code but as I walked into race reg, the weather conditions hit home with a bangAngryAngry my stomache started turning nervousness set in with speed and that was me B-LINE for the loo. Coming out of the loo, I heard whispers that the race will be shortened but that didn't help my nervousness, I had to do a sudden U-True back to the loo. CryCryCry On my 2nd attempt to look the part in the hall I heard it might be cancelled.

Never the less we went back to the car to do the last things were I filled my back pockets with my months supply of gu, sweets, energy bars, "short gloves, just in case" while my hubby just stood there shaking his head looking at me not saying a word as he knew betterLOLLOL Evenually we or should I say I am ready get on our bikes and head down to the start.

On our return to the start we heard that Karen from the ppa had sent people out on the route to phone in weather reports, they were coming in fast and not looking good at 6am so Karen cancalled on the race. Which I think was the right thing to do. While waiting for the cyclist to move in front of me, I heard some really ugly comments flying around. Really people it is not on!!!

Cycling is a sport, why is it nessecary for cyclist to get so tense, try putting yourself in Karen shoes, she has a huge responsiblity on her hands her main concern is the safety of fellow cyclist, then only does the time, dedication and cost factor come to thought.

So for the hand full of cyclist that had nothing nice to say at the briefing I think you all owe Karen and the fellow cyclist standing around you an apology. Please next time you want to bad mouth people make sure you do it in private as not everyone feels the same as you and your clanAngry

Well done for turning up!  I am really impressed with you, nellie and the gang who had the guts to go for it.

As for the moaners; it seems half the people want an excuse and also someone to blame!  There is no way you guys should have been out there on the roads today with very little support/cover at the stop overs.  The riding might have been OK, but stops would have been pure hell.  Imagine sitting ther after each stage in the sleet waiting for the stragglers to come in.  Recipe for disaster!

Karen from PPA did the right thing. I only heard relief from a bunch of VERY nervous cyclists who were not in the mood to ride in very BAD weather for the whole day. I was not aware of the sleet until Karen announced it. So well done and thank you to PPA to go check conditions on route. I think most of us would have been brave enough for rain, but sleet.....Confused...and icy/slippery roads....Dead. Thanks to PPA for having the guts to make the right decision. To those who bad mouthed/ bitched: Don't come to PPA events. Angry

A crazy bunch of hubbers decided to go for a short ride around Rawsonville. I guess we were trying to burn some of the carbs we  loaded....LOL. It was nice to meet and/ or see all of you. PokerFace2007-10-07 09:53:30

Just for the record: I have not heard anybody bad mouth PPA or Karen after the race was cancelled. I think it was a very small percentage of people who b!tched.
