  1. The comm pacing the break was not Shameeq. We tried crossing but could see the break sitting behind the car. I first called the bike marshall to tell the comm to move. Then he moved in between the the riders and the cars. I then told Shameeq to tell the comm, older man, so move away. He went and sat behind the break until Shameeq cane back to the main bunch, he then again sat right in front of them. The stop was a joke. I was one of the guys pacing, we were about 10 guys pacing, sitting on the left yellow. The guys at the back crossed the white line, to be expected with 150 riders in that narrow road. To stop the riders doing nothing wrong was just crazy. In the old days the bike marshalls warned the guys once if the crossed the white line with a yellow card. The 2nd time you got a red card and the marshall took you out the back. You had to unpin your number. Race over. The white line was like the end of the road. The way Shameeq stopped to race was dangerous. On a drag, going full gas. Get to the top, bakkie parked across the road. Crazy. No warning. Nothing
  2. Winelands not a sanctioned event. With Wocester on the same day, you stand a change of a 1 month ban if you do Winelands. Won't be able to race National Champs then.
  3. Stage 1 have a few nasty rollers at the start. Stage 2 is tuff. Lots op punchy climbs. Stage 3 lots of sand. Stage for is a very nice stage. But remember the rider doing 4 is also doing 5 with the rest of the team. They are then well rested and like puttingvyou in the hurtbox.
  4. Keep it simple like last year. No backup, stop if you want to feed, grap a bottle and go. Feeding on the go will be a disaster, the average cyclist don't have the skill to grap a musette on the go. just my 2c
  5. After 139 000 km on my Giant TCR it was time for an upgrade. Trek Emonda SLR7
  6. Nice route from Dwarskerbos to Aurora, then you can go up te mountain to the Tower, about a 12 km climb if I remember correctly, 5% avg Gradient. 90km there and back, can share some Strava links with you on some of the Gravel loops I do in that area.
  7. One of the best races on the calender for me.
  8. Tom had a great ride. Caught my whole field within the first 18km. Just rolled in to the finish. Saving energy for Sunday. But yes, Tom is an absolute beast on a TT bike.
  9. If you want to ride it enter the SwartbergXtreme race later this year. It will be the 3rd year they running this race. You start 10km outside of Oudtshoorn, go over Swartberg pass down to the hell, turn around and go left at the T-junction to Prince Albert. Make another u-turn just before the tar road and head back to Oudtshoorn over Swartberg pass from Prince Albert's side. Fun event and the organizer, Pienaar, really put in a lot of effort.
  10. It was not a marshal. It was a man and his wife touring. They hit a Guinea fowl and crashed. The wife was taken to hospital.
  11. That was not the Comms fault. The riders were on the wrong side of the road. If he did not do that, the on comming car would have killed all the guys on the wrong side of the road.
  12. Anyone can get the license. You get notes to study with all the rules and write an exam. If you pass you get your license. You need at least a Level C managers license. You must renew it every year. They had the course sometime last week in Cape Town, a month ago in Oudtshoorn.
  13. And we are Veterans. That should give us a cat 2 or 3 start.
  14. 30 minutes between Cat 1 and Cat 2 on a flat race 🤯
  15. Their race got stopped at the 85km mark. Some saftey issue
  16. He probably have an elite liscense?
  17. Problem is the race organizers are still one of those that believe that Vets can't race with the elites. The Cycle Tour had 4 Vets in the top 5. We will start in the bunch behind the elites.
  18. They do random out of comp testing. I got a visit in April/May. Got home after work and they were waiting here.
  19. Can't really compare the two as spectators were not allowed this year due to Covid-19. But I must agree, the atmosphere going up Tom Jenkins was the best I have ever seen in any road race in SA. Even better than Suikerbossie in the Argus
  20. Great event. One of the best organized SA's I have ever attended.
  21. We have the SA Masters race every Wednesday at 19:15. You can also look for the Masters SA series page on facebook for more details.
