Hi

Im hearing varying opinions?

Tough climbing on the way out, suited to a road bike, fast back, suited for TT.

If it depends on cyclist strength, say for someone who does a 3 hour amashova...

Also interested in opinions on this topic.

With all that climbing what gearing does one need to save the legs for the run? I think I might need a compact crank?

Interesting thread.

I was also thinking about a TT bike, decided against it for the time being as Im getting married, moving etc so cash flows are destined outwards.

From what Ive heard, the benefit is minimal on 70.3 for a TT bike. However bear in mind that Im sure you'd be doing other events where a TT bike will definately be beneficial.

What TT bike you looking at?

I assume you own both otherwise this is a pointless Question.

if so what does the Tri bike weigh vs the road bike?

I would say TT if you have done many miles of training in it already.

Funnily enough, I spoke to MArk at Troi sport and he said that weight can virtually be ignored in a TT bike. Comfort and optimal riding position is everything.

Its not too late to start training with a TT, but you better start soon. I got a TT bike last year this time, and was ready, although I was more comfortable at IMSA on it. Only problem was gear ratio had a 11 21 cluster on which was a bit heavy on the quads and then running on them wasn't comfortable.

Considering that you're going to be by yourself for 90km I would definitely recommend a TT bike.

Any time loss on the uphill you should more than make up on the downs and flats because of aerodynamics.

If you have a TT bike - then go TT

If you dint have a TT bike but have a nice trust fund - get a TT

On half ironman you can always just trow on some TT bars to your road bike.

Unless you want to win it, the aero does not make that much of a diff - lets say for argument sake 7min - 10min

A TT bike is very limited in its use - with a road bike you can always add TT bars. Remember - its about a 3 hour ride only.

For IM - go TT - the comfort is very important over 6 - 7 hours

TT bars - R 800.00 - TT bike R 30 000.00

If cash aint the issue go TT

For 1/2 IM I dont see the capital input justifying the time benifit but then again, I dont have a trust fund.
