I'm wanting to cycle from Claremont area to Somerset West then onto Kleinmont via the Gordens bay road. But i cant seem to find a route to get to Somerset West except for the N2. I see there is a road from Muizenburg - Baden Powell that can take you onto Old man road and then onto the R44. But is it safe? A lot of people are saying Baden Powell is not the safest road.

Any suggestions for a route will be welcome.

Thanks

dont do baden powel

its going to be a shclep to get into somerset west.

your best will be to try get into durbanville and then head down bottlray (sp?) rd into stellies then onto the R44.

but dont ask me - ask the other hubbers who know everything.

Ja _ no go Baden Powell, I'm even scared to ride that road with my car

Agreed with Slowbee, go through Pinelands towards Bellville, then onto the Bottelary road, R44 into S/West would be best...

Thanks guys. Seems as if the durbanville and then head down bottlray rd into stellies then onto the R44 is the best way to go! Thanks for the great help!

+1 for what Tankman said. But remember that Voortrekker rd is very busy and thus dangerous during the week. All depends on what time you want to leave the burbs.

i just replied on another thread how i hate bing and love google. you'll see from here that baden powell is probably longer anyway.

I once rode from muizenberg to villiersdorp using baden powell. Wasn't as bad as i thought it would be as i did it about 7am on a sat morning. the other problem is that sand can blow onto the road so there is almost no space to ride. I wouldn't really do it again (ok, maybe if liz hatch asked me)
