Rear Cassettes - 11/32 or 11/34?

Hi

Please could you let me know which cassette is better to use on a XC bike. I need to replace mine as it is worn and I need to make the decision.

XT is better than SLX

XX is better than X.0

One type of thing can't be better than another, because it all depends on everything.

You running 3x9?

You strong?

What bike you have?

etc.

Then we could recommend, but you won't get a definite answer. You'll have to decide or experiment what is best for you

I know with my 2x9 setup, I can still ride a certain gradient without too much trouble on a 11-34 casette

Go 32 it's a good middle ground, 28 if you have the 'Canounies'.

11-34 for is better for mtb. Mates and I have tried both and agree that the 34 allows you to stay in middle chainring on the hills 1 gear longer, slight heavier but not noticeable.

I HATE 11-34 for the simple reason that the ratio's lower down the range 6-7-8-9 are spaced too widely apart. Depending on how much power you put down when riding fast on a flat, you'll always feel like you're riding a gear too heavy, when shifting up one, it'll be too light...etc...

For xc 11-28 or 11-32, I've even used 11-25 and 11-23 before.

11-32 is not perfect, but for me, 1000 times better than 11-34.

11-32 -> 11-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32

11-34 -> 11-13-15-17-20-23-26-30-34

Thanks for the responses chaps.

I am on an Anthem X2, 3 x 9 speed, 26 inch wheels.

I enjoyed the 11-32 but felt that if I had a 34 I could climb anything in the middle ring upfront...

I am going to order the 11-34 and test it out.

I use the 11-34 because I am running 2x9.

If you are going to stay 3x9, why try and stay in the middle chain ring longer? If you have the extra chain ring, get the lighter cassette with better ratios. Unless of course you thinking of going 2x9...

I have aslo used 11-32 as 2x9, but sometimes (on the more hilly races) the legs run out before the gears.

okay... wow what a wonderful change! the 11-34 really suites my riding style and I am finding that I now live in the middle ring... I did a 30km run this morning and feel fresh! :clap:

Thanks for all of the opinions and guidance chaps.
