Well after riding 700km on my std wheels with tyreliners and slime and not one putcture, went out yesterday and got tubeless wheels and tyres. Had two flats today and had to use two bombs.

But my bike is 1kg lighter so I will accept the pucture.(s)

Big J did you notice whether it was easier or that you went faster with the lighter wheels?

Made a HUGE difference on the hills and the handling on the single track was far better.

Ok, the reason I asked is because I recently bought a second wheelset, Shimano XT with Conti 2.0 Race kings filled with Stans, went out on my second ride and a piece of glass flatted the tyre. Bombed it but the hole was too big. Walked home :(

When I rode my original wheelset (much heavier), LX with Crossmarks and tubes, when I got a puncture I just replaced the tube and off I went.

What's the point of riding tubeless if you need to still carry spare tubes or was my glass incident a freak occurrence...?

Well let's put it this way.

I haven't had a flat since January when I went tubeless.

Got another bike this week and today after 1km I got a flat from a "those thorns with the 3 sides". Went straight to the shop and got rim tape and valves.

You ask what's the point of tubeless? Lower tyre pressure, lower weight, watch the video in the link.

A lot of guys ride without any spare tubes.

The sealant wont survive a cut- that why you should pack those patches which you use inside the tyre (Park Tools make some). I also carry a spare tube in case all else fails, so far in almost a year of tubeless 'no flats' so far.

Must say that video (which is also on his web site plus more) reminds me of that guy who sold this wonder goodie at the Rand Show going back to 19 voetsak called a "Stromberg", which you put on your HT leads in you car, then he throws water, oil, soiled nappies etc over the engine and guess what the Stromberg keeps it going no matter what. Same routine for about 30 years..

Maybe Stan should do a video with a few acacia thorns just to show how invincible his solution really is!

Those tubeless 'snot' strips that now come in different sizes are useful if you get a puncture that the sealant doesn't 'plug' :D

In fact at Sabie Experience pre ride I got a side wall cut and put 4 of the bigger ones in and it got me through 30k's

ok for the clueless - Stans do you use it in the tyre or can you use it in tubes aswell ? this stuff looks great :)
