I can't get used to mine either so I tend to not wear it too often. Also find that the wearlink strap for the polar just doesn't work - it doesn't pick the pulse up reliably. Maybe I don't have a heart

There are a couple of tricks to getting the wearlink to work properly.

One of them is to machine wash it from time to time. I chuck mine in the shower to rinse every time I wear it, and in the machine once a month.

The one that I worked out for myself, and which seems to work, is to rub water into the mesh part before putting the thing on. Since I've been doing this, it works 100%. Before I worked out this trick it would take from 5 - 10 minutes before it picked up my pulse.

What BM said. Run it under a warm tap until the electrode patches are soaking before you put it on. Cold water can give you a bit of a breathless moment, specially in winter. Also wash the electrode patches with a bit of warm water and hand soap after every ride. And don't leave the transmitter connected.

The guys from Polar SA actually recommend washing the wearlink strap once a month. They sommer chuck theirs into the washing machine, but I guess theirs are either staff priced or free. I used to put mine in a pillow case, and then wash it with the non-softner load (synthetic sporting clothes)

Worked like a charm!

Women don't have hearts. 0 chance of picking up a pulse!

You're lucky I know you :P

personally I've had no problems with a HR monitor...you just find a comfortable way that suites you and I always train with mine on.

I use heart rate gel from Sportsmans Warehouse and afterwards I rinse it under water and once a month I pop it into a laundry bag and pop it into the washing machine. Wash it with the cycling clothes without softener.

However, I will add something constructively.

I prefer not to use the strap in winter, I find that my nips poke holes through it.
