Can you all knowing people please answer the following.

What are :

a) the rules of the road for cyclists in a yellow lane?

b)whilst the road rules may be different, is bunch riding while in a yellow line an acceptable and reasonable practice ?

Now for the mini rant!

In getting to clients today I was overtaken by a bunch of riders in blue and white kit, with the sponsors NetApp all over the kit. These guys had the propensity to jump red robots in full view of the traffic.

Does anyone know who the team captain is? Possibly how I can get hold of the said person and or the sponsors as I would like to discuss this with them?

Do you also post things on the internet everytime a taxi commits a trafic offence? And I assume you always adhere to the speed limits? Bicycles are clean and safe and pose little danger to other road users - they should be sticking to the rules of the road, but cut them a little slack.

If you are convinced that their bad behaviour puts cycling in a bad light, by all means, talk to their SPONSOR! They are not going to listen to anyone other than the guy who signs their paycheck. Money talks!

When it comes to the law - cutting a little slack is the start of the end!

I agree when it comes to the Police and justice system. But I meant it on a social individual level - do you report your friends to the local traffic police every time you see them speeding? If not, you're cutting them some slack.

Tell me, is jumping a red light really jumping if it is a T-junction and the cyclist is going straight

Bram - you bring up several important points.

1. Do I speed. I try my utmost not to, especially since the lead SA campaign started. In the first two months of the yr I had 5 speeding fines. Since then I have had only one (76 in a 60 zone).

2. Just because I break the law - does not mean I should not speak up. I am writing this not because of the yellow line thing I just want that clarified for my own curiosity. I am bringing this up because they jumped red robots (plural is intended), ie more than once, in full view of traffic, on a very busy road. Cyclists have bad reputations for breaking the law. Just because it is clean, does not make it safe. And cyclists who jump robots pose a huge threat to other road users, no matter what. Also it speaks to the law only applying to some people and not others.

3. Cutting slack, I think when you do that it is the start of the end.

I dont want this to be a mudsling thing. All I want to know is how do I get hold of the team captain so I can discuss this with him (or her), and if not that person, then the sponsor so they can pass the message on.

Lead by example. Simple.

No problem  I appreciate you are trying to do the right thing and this starts with small things I guess. My original point was that maybe there are bigger things that deserve more attention.

As a side comment, I have made a note to drive a little more carefully after seeing that body on the road on the way to the Burger yesterday - it gave me quite a shock!:( Not sure what happened, but there was a smashed car, what looked like the leftovers of a motorbike and a body covered in black plastic - quite scary.

Anyway, safe driving and riding to everybody over the season.

Heard on the radio news this guy was flying down the N1 ON THE WRONG SIDE, and it ended in grief, as you can attest to.

Slowbee, honestly what is so wrong with what they did? Did they skip a light and caused a comotion? Or did they roll on while it was red for everyone? Was it at a Crossing or a T-junction?
