I will do the traditional PE Christmas Ride and then another hour or two and lay on the couch after that

My kids all grown up so none of that nonsense anymore

 Yip, what is this Xmas everyone refers to?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xmas

I also refuse to use xmas, thinking it was introduced by anti-Christians who nevertheless wanted to exploit the commercialism of Christmas. But then I asked Wiki for an explanation and this is what it says in the link.

I'm visiting Madeira, and I brought my bike with me and I am definitely riding on Christmas Day, just to further reinforce my family's view of me as insane.

So true buddy, it's actually quite disrespectful.

Thanks, Yang. I was going to answer this post yesterday, but you beat me to it. Nothing disrespectful about it at all.

It reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. There is a subtle joke for scholars when Indy - a polyglot - tells his class: " 'X' never, ever marks the spot." Then later, when he and Marcus Brody get closer to finding the map to find the Holy Grail from the Last Supper in a Venetian library. Indiana bemusedly says: " 'X' marks the spot."

Not to mention that the Christmas tree is itself a Pagan symbol. ;)

I have never thought it was introduced by anti-Christians, just felt no need to abbreviate the word Christ, as I too deem it to be disrespectful - personal opinion. Why do we feel the need to do so in the word Christmas, yet in your statement above you don't abbreviate the word Christian to "Xian"?

Anyway, no mud slinging contest here. ;)

I hope come Saturday, you all have a wonderful and blessed Christmas, whether you're on your bike or not.

It took a while and a post from Yang for you to actually respond.

The very third post or so in this thread was from me stating that I won't be on my bike on Christmas day.

Nice recovery , by the way.

As for Wiki, can we believe all we read.......................

Given the fact that any man on the street, including some of our "super hubbers" can contribute to Wiki, only having to state "citation needed" in order to disqualify any profoundly inaccurate facts, would give your question a big fat NO!

I wanted to reply yesterday when you said you found it disrespectful, but couldn't via the mobi version of The Hub (my laptop at home is on the fritz). As for believing what we read, I guess it's a matter of what you put your faith in.

Is there anything on that link that you can refute?

Yip, and ChainSuck brought it across rather eloquently.

BTW, you can't refute anything unless you, yourself have a reference point to start from, which means that when it comes to Wiki, humans are rather gullible.

PS. I just love it when people can't admit that they possible offended others and then fight tooth and nail to save face.
