they do not buckle their kids up and:

let them sit in the back seats unrestrained.

let them stand between the frotn seats.

let them sit of the front seat without a seat belt.

let them stand on the front seat without a seatbelt.

sit with their youg babies in their arms in either back or front seats.

For your interest, an airbag deploys at over 300km/h and if you are not stopped by the seat belt you move forward enough during a frontal collision for your head to be in the way of the deploying bag. In other words, you get hit in the face at 300km/h plus what you are travelling forward.

Surely it does not take a lot to apply your brain to think you should buckle them up.

I think it takes more brains to lock your front door and cook your child a meal than it does to realize they should sit in the back with a restraint.

And if you didn't feed your kid or protect his home then I would say you don't love him. Same applies for seatbelts to me. You cannot tell me parents do not know this.

I have seen to many kids over the years that have hit the cars windscreen or dash because they were standing.

I have seen a childs teeth stuck in the back of it's Grannies head because she was standing. :o

I have seen to many parents at crashes who have lost there children in the crash because they were not buckled in. :(

One thing i am very happy for is that in Europe the cops lock the parents up and charge them if the kids are not buckled in.It's long overdue in SA to

You forgot to metion - smoking with kids in the car. Ever smelt a 3 year old that reeks of ciggies? Ever heard them cough?

Oh man! Don't get me started on that. One at a time. :D

I had a theory when I was younger. A harsh one. I thought, well, stupid parents have stupid kids so let them.

Nothing wrong with that. Look around you and see. Most of us are a direct product of our parents way of life and living! As we and the world grow up we realise and see things in a different way. 30 years ago smoking was ace and eveyrone did it with reckless abandon, same goes for driving with kids or having 12 ales on a Sat arvie and then driving back to Potch...

We grow and learn, well, hopefully.

short answer is Yes. Very few parents don't love their kids with all their heart. That does however not mean that some parents (people in general) are not very often very stupid!

I guess everybody has a different "appetite for risk" (to put it in political correct terms)

Some of us speed with our cars, some of us don't allways wear helmets when cycling in the park, some of us drink more than we should, some of us eat too much fatty foods, some of us take chances with the Tax man and some of us just don't care. There are also people who never do anything wrong or stupid, but normally they're a pain in the arse.

I've ridden above the speed limit with friends / girlfriends / family in the car, I've chased super fast on downhills not knowing the trail, I've drank 20 tequilas in one night and passed out in the bath while I was studying, yet I in general I don't think I'm a too bad guy, and it's rediculous to say that I don't love my family, friends or myself for that matter.

So no, sometimes a parent might feel that the "risk" is small enough to hold a kid on your lap i guess...

Everybody does stuff wrong all the time, and everybody has certain "wrongs" that don't bother them too much, so if we go into a judging game, we'd have to judge everybody on the face of the earth. We're all sinners, and we're all stupid (some more often than others :) )

For the record: Mine sits in the back, buckled up, but do you have kids? If so, you want to say you NEVER did anything stupid/irresponsible (even in hind sight, or according to others) when it gets to them

Love and reason has nothing to do with each other :) Some parents do the daftest things according to other people, but ask them and they'd say the love their kids.

I can take the "love kids if..." thing further:

Do parents love their children if they allow them to climb tree, knowing they can fall out?

Do parents love their children if they allow them to play with catapults, knowing they might shoot at each other (coz they are kids/boys)?

Do parents love their children if they buy them motorbikes/scooters when they turn 16, knowing they'll race them?

Do parents love their children if they dote on them, 'knowing' they are actually turning them into spoilt brats?

You do not need to be responsible to love.... neither does loving make you responsible
