I have been licensed with CSA (SACF) since 1989. I just renewed my 2011 affiliation at a whopping R425, which I think is a bit ridiculous.

Cycling South Africa I hope you do something productive with my contribution!!!

What a rip, I was told I needed a CSA licence R75, cool I registered and applied mysteriously a "provincial affilication" of R75 was added to my cart, can't be removed from cart and no information as to what it is for??? So your CSA licence is not R75 it actually is R150!

The "provincial affiliation" can be removed. But, you need to be a member of a club when you buy a CSA license.

I paid Club Fees = R100

So not sure, but perhaps the "provincial affiliation" is in place of a club membership, so you don’t have to join a club now. But me thinks better to pay R100 for club membership than to CSA

Well the system is flawed because when you enter your registration details they ask if you belong to a club so the system should have picked it up

The provincial affiliation is a fee that all Club cyclists have to pay to Central Gauteng Cycling (CGC). It has been in place for at least the last 4 years now. In the past, the clubs collected the fee on behalf of CGC and paid it to them. Now, with the new CSA system, it is possible to collect the fee directly from cyclists when they apply for CSA membership. This is CGC's preferred method of collecting the fee.

There are still situations where the clubs need to collect the R75 CGC affiliation fee on CGC's behalf:

1.) Club members who are not CSA members.

2.) Club members who are unable to carry out the CSA registration process themselves (e.g. no internet).

3.) Club members who paid for CSA membership with their Argus entries. At the time, the CSA system didn't charge for CGC affiliation, so these people still need to pay the R75 to their club.

If you are a cyclist living in the CGC area and belong to a club (including ROAG), the CGC affiliation fee is complusory. Our club (Cresta Wheelers) no longer includes the CGC fee in our annual membership fee (effectively reducing it by R75). Your club should have done the same, or at least notified you that their fee still includes CGC affiliation.

Just to clarify: Provincial affiliation used to be included in club membership (IIRC, the normally free ROAG membership was R75 for Gauteng because of this), it is not in place of club membership. You do still need to join a club.

Thanks for explanation. I remember paying that R75 to the club when I joined, I'll contact them for the refund as I couldn't see a way of excluding the amount when I paid CSA.

As I understand it you have no option but to pay all 3:

Club +- R50 to R450

Provincial - R75

National CSA - R75

Correct, with some comments:

Club +- R50 to R450 - theoretically should be reduced (depending on province) since it no longer has to include provincial affiliation fees

Provincial - R75 - depends on the province where you live.

National CSA - R75 - you do not have to pay this, but if you will do more than two CSA-affiliated races this year, it will be cheaper than buying day licences for each one.

there was an issue with roag and the cgc fee last year - i.e. roag did not collect it - i think that is one of the reasons why the prov affiliation is now purchased while buying the csa membership. Prov affiliation fees vary from province to province

Central Gauteng - R75 (primary reason for this is because they have so few events in their area of jurisdiction - as far as i am aware)

KZN - R35 (reason - who knows - there are one or two events every weekend for most of the year)

other provinces - R0 (might be wrong about this)

I took out my CSA liscence last week and it cost R200 (R50 ROAG, R75 Central Qauteng, R75 CSA). That is R16.66 per month. I cannot believe that people can moan so much about paying R 200 per year for the privilage of racing and having a Cycling Federation taking care of Cycling in South Africa. I used to Canoe actively and out of interest went to see how much its cost to be able to take part in canoeing races. The annual provincial and national fee is R 550 per year, excluding your club membership.

I will most likely get slated for this by people saying what are they getting for the R200 etc, etc. Maybe if we paid more they would be able to do more, he says grabbing his hat and running out the room.

ok ... when I applied and paid online @ CSA, I didnt pay the R75, nor did I pay that to the club - so I guess somebody is gonna ask me soon to pay that outstanding R75 ...

Am I supposed to take and get my card printed myself? Who does the extra R35 go to, and what for?
