Anyone had a similar problem?:

During riding im fine, no issues. But the next day my lower back kills me. Also upper back (between shoulder blades) is sore the next day.

Went to the doctor the last time (after the pain didnt clear for a week). He gave me pain pills and a muscle relaxant. Explained a whole long story that some or other cartlidge in my lower back is bleeding and this puts pressure on my back. Sounded a bit far fetched...

Took the pills and rested (as instructed) for 2 weeks. Cleared up nicely, but now after my 1st cycle, same story....

WTF???

how long have you been cycling for?

I had similar issues when i got back on the bike after a few years.

I found by moving my seat forward a bit it stoped me from reach so much for the bars and the sore shoulders went.

as for the lower back, it comes down to core muscles, I trained them in the gym and as they strengthed the sore back went.

Thx Mark...

I only started recently, will try to move the seat a bit to see if that helps.

Core muscles schouldnt be a problem, before started cycling I use to hit the gym 5/6 times a week for about 2 hours.....

Usual suspects include bike setup, flexibility, core strength. Irrespective of first, pay attention to the latter two.

i used to have lower back issues, but i have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) so that probably was part of the problem. i do more core work now, had my new bike (i switched to dual sus) properly set up and now Im hundreds. can ride 100+kms offroad with no problems.

I have been battling with this for a month now, and my biggest aggravator seems to me to be weak core along with poor flexibility (been recuperating from injury and have gone to pot a bit...) Too many pots too perhaps?

Gym work is fine but I suggest a bio-kineticist to give you the specific execises and stretching which will address your particular issues.

Either way, work on these and GET A BIKE SETUP done by a qualified/trained person.

Thx guys. Like I said, on the physical side, core shouldnt be the issue - will def look at flexibility.

Bike setup - dropped my seat height a bit and moved it slightly forward. Went out for a quick ride. Felt MUCH better... So will wait for tomorrow and see what the back thought of it.

Gym work normally involves larger muscle groups... Not sure what training you did in the gym? Deeper (not 'six pack') abdominal muscles?

I am no expert. The core muscle, setup make sense. I don't have the best setup, nor the best core muscle and have scoliosis, but no back pain.

For whats it's worth. I have heard stories from a couple of people that suffered back pain that it was sorted with a different saddle. Something to do with the with and how it makes your hips bend.
