And as promised last week here are some of the details as well as a poster to get you into the mood!

The race starts at 7 AM in Jonkershoek on Saturday the 12th, be there at 6:30 to get the registration out of the way.

The race itself consists of 2 laps of the African Champs XCO Course but incorporates 2 beer forfeits.

Yes, you do need a single speed bike, the honour system doesn’t work here, you can’t arrive with gears and just promise that you’re not going to change gears, you can however remove all your gear cables and housings, then we’ll believe you.

See everyone on Saturday morning for some beers and some solid riding.

HAHA! Well done Steve, excellent, what sort of distance / time are we looking at here so I can either postpone / cancel prior commitments?

Who else is coming, so far looks like it's just SteveCT, More Wood and myself?

No prizes for last place? I am in with a huge shout for that one.

I climb like a rock rolling up a mountain but I can drink like a bergie! That is where the difference comes!

@XTC1, you should be fine, we're all in the same boat, what's the course like? Been hearing good things about the tech but also heard it's quite short?

ummm..... i'm confused, what race is when? i thought it was at rietvlei on the 2nd????? or has it changed?

The Cape SSers are hi-jacking the African Champs cyclosport class on 12 Feb to run a " SS championship"

The Gauteng SSers have Grant's race on 2 April at Rietvlei.

You start off with a short section of level jeep track, then cut a left into a managable singletrack climb which is a bit loose, it becomes quite technical steep and rocky which had me off the bike for about a 50 meter push / pant / sweat and swearathon.

You then have a short section of level jeep track, cross over to a lekker flowing singletrack climb which then becomes another steep rocky climb...another pushathon of probably 50 meters or so, then a rocky / techical descent, cross the jeep track and a long awesome flowing singletrack back to the start.

Apparently it's 4.2 kilo's.

It's a really easy flat and flowing course and if I were you guys I would have gearing of no less than 42 x 14 else you'll be spinning out the whole way. No climbs, promise!!!

BTW I was on a 29er with 32 x 18 gearing and not a racing snake so fitter riders should be quite a bit quicker going up...not much faster coming down though!!!

Ok,

I have heard via the radio telescope that their will be a INTERGALACTIC SS Championships race for the plant earth on the 2nd April at Rietvlei Farm.

This is open to all SS riders ONLY in Africa.

For more info go to www.singlespeed.co.za

Keep an eye/ear out for more space messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how can this be intergalactic if only africans are allowed...that's kinda like that baseball tournament being called the world series

of course if neil blomkamp's ****** prawns are allowed then i'm cool with that. i hear that christopher johnson has a mean kick.

on the number of entries for jonkers, there's a rough count of about 20 on the startline...maybe more, hopefully not less!

so any takers for a kzn "coming of the zulu's" single speed extravaganza? Giba got some nice climbs

Thanks to the guys that organized the SS race and refreshments...fun fun FUN! Anyone know where the photo's will be posted?

How about a series of local SS races in a similar format, maybe do something once a month during winter or whenever suits on a Sat or Sunday? Tokai, Eden, Magic, Jonkies and wherever else we can think of? The racing snakes can get points League style and the rest can come for the beer.

Was indeed an AWESOME event! Got 'overtaken' during both my beerstops. Need some serious practice! Rumour has it that this is also where the race was won.

I was shocked to find out(way too late in my career) that beer actually makes me a better rider. Seriously felt like I'd never descended so smoothly in my life....but then I was riding through a beer haze so maybe it was just my imagination.

Personal highlight was being heckled, mocked and tuned by SteveCT going up a singletrack uphill "YOU WANNA OVERTAKE, HUH, HUH...?!" while accelerating away from me only to have him hit the deck right in front of me after I caught him back up on the final descent....EAT THAT BITCH!

Also, where the hell is my prize for biggest gear of the day...?
