Sadly I won't be doing this ride - pity 'cause it sounds like a great ride with a great bunch of pansies peeps. But riding before dawn on roads that bikes shouldn't be on in the first place? Not so very clever.

Consider the likelihood of a drunk numb nuts side-swiping the bunch going down to Hospital Bend.

I'd suggest riding Main Rd as far as Newlands, then Clipper Road and Newlands ave. to Paradise Rd and join the M3 there. Still naughty, but you will get the joy that is Edinburgh Drive and the blast of charging down the Blue Route.

But, as I am not doing the ride, feel even more free than usual to ignore my comments. :)

Good advice me thinks.

Would've loved to have you on the ride

Bikemonster. I'm certainly not going to take a chance/gamble with anybody's lives, lest my own. Safety first, at all times. It is why I originaly suggested a start time of btween 5h30 and 6h00.

Just trying to guage the feeling amongst people taking part in ride.

SeaBee, wanna come along?

:D

Thanks for the invite! Dangerous Dales could be growing... But in short: NO!

Last time I rode part of the route, it was a blissfully quiet day. Somebody coming down past 12 Apostles made the comment "And they say the wind is gonna blow tomorrow? Yeah riiight..."

It was the Sat morning before the big 09 funride, quite memorable for some reason...

I'm not riding the route beforehand again! Then again, it only helped that much last year! ;)

Not to sound negative or anything... what about all the dronkies coming out of pubs at that time of the morning... it's still night dark at 5am. I'm just saying, safety first I reckon.

Motorists actually Slow Down when approaching Me, Behind OR from the Front. WHY? Because seeing me for the FIRST Time, makes them think they are approaching a ROAD Block.

Works for Me.

I do not want to take chances with peoples lives. Should there be enough concerns, we start later when it is not so dark and and stick with plan A.

The Dark is NOT the Issue. Everbody needs to Cycle with Purpose, Intention. Any Group needs to have a Strong Leader, keeping everyone in a Orginised manner, 2 x 2, Greeting/ Thanking Motorists.

The Dark is Merely a Mental issue. It is Understanding the Motorists Actions that is The BIG ISSUE.

Coming from a Night T ime Commuter.

What is emerging from the thread:

On the Sat 6 AM, in reality, 06h10 when wheels roll.

Let's see who will show up for one of the most beautiful routes in the whole world... ^_^
