Hi Folks

After we've gone through the normal, roady vs mounty bashing, "ride them all and decide what you want" etc replies -

Question 1: Please shoot suggestions for road bikes between R30k and R40k? Its for a lady I know who wants to buy new.

Ive looked at a few and will make suggestions, but my knowledge of the differences in the various frames is LIMITED to say the least.

Question 2: She queried about deep section wheels. When do they start adding benefit? Only at higher avg speeds? Will they screw you in hilly races? (considering that most SA road races are relatively flat

Shops are welcome to pitch. And out of the norm ideas always welcome.

Thanks folks!

(Bikes Ive looked at that seem to fit the bill -

Pinarello FP3

Cannondale Synapse

Eddy Merckx EMX-3)

Is the lady in question looking to race competitively, league racing etc? If yes then deep sections will be a big benefit trying to hang on to the men at 40km/h+

If I had 40k I would buy a giant TCR advanced frameset (excellent value, pro tour quality frame), Sram Force group (excellent value, very light group), light bar and stem, cheap training wheels - you could probably get this for 30k if you shop around. Then spend the rest on some kickass racing wheels - 2nd hand Zipp 404 tubbies for example - with the remaining 10k. The key is to train on heavy wheels and race on the zipps. There's no benefit to training on light racing wheels.

Giant TCR Advanced for about R32k - and then get lighter wheels with the balance of your budget?

Deep sections look awesome, but they are often not that light and I imagine you only get real benefit when out on your own (break away or time trial) as most of the time you are in a bunch.

Comes with a Ultegra groupset and some nice Ksyrium Elite rims...already a perfect bike for R32k

for R21.500 you have almost R20k to make it even lighter and get

the deep sections she is interested in.

If the bike is a suitable size for her that is..

Drop me a PM if Interested..

Wow dude, what a bike hey! If I were into all this tar riding that might have tickled my fancy. Great price.

For the lady - too big. But good luck with the sale.

If you in Cape Town try a KHS at Circle Cycles. Awesome frame, FSA carbon bar, stem and crankset, full dura-ace drivetrain on the remainder, mavic wheels.

A very good deal.
