Went riding this morning and next moment the reinforcing inside the side wall must have failed as the bubble was so big it rubbed against the frame. I stopped and deflated the tyre and made it back home. The sidewall has not teared.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with gatorskin / duraskin tyres?

What does the wall look like from the inside? You may have a cut through the reinforcing which has allowed the bubble to form. Even a small cut from a glass puncture that damages the casing can cause the failure. If you haven't punctured the tyre at all in the past I would take it back to the shop and they can follow it up with continental.

Just took the tyre off. The sidewall is 100%. The tyre failed due too the bead that tore out the seam at the bottom of the sidewall. Weird!

I have the same tires, and my tires are shedding the thread in the side walls, why is that? Pieces oof string are constanly comming lose

It is called separation. I get it a lot with my truck tires. Somewhere the tire got a hard blow, like a rock or a pothole. With time the inside beads separate because of the high tire pressure.
