So this morning I took my new roadbike out for the first time.

Got up just after 4 really excited about this new experience. So used to my mtb that it felt like learning to ride all over again.

Plan was to go for a 2 odd hour ride, cross over Malanshoogte and back and up Vissershok.

Wind was a little distracting, but who cares I am flying with little resistance. Up Adderley and down to Fair Cape dairy farm. Turned around and headed back up the hill.

Then as I was just about to reach the top disaster. The chain broke. Snapped clean of. It was 6 in the morning. The wife at gym. I had an hour before I would get any help from her. So I walked to the top and freewheeled down to the bottom of Vissershok.

With the wind full in my face and the sun only starting to come out I started to walk up Vissershok. I waved at people coming past, but no one even slowed down. So I walked to the top of Vissers, freewheeled down the other side, and as I was about to get of my bike a mountain biker came up behind me and gave me a push for about an kilometer until he had to turn.

Walked another 3km and the wife came to pick me up.

So how was my first experience as a "roadie" - Awesome. I guess we all get into situations we do not wish for, but it is the attitude we go forward with that makes it worthwhile.

I usualy push as hard as I can on the bike and today I was forced to take it slow and enjoy. Thanks to the guys who passed me, and a big thumbs up to the only other fellow cyclist who helped me.

Man I love this sport.

Nextime you will remember to take a chain link and a chain breaker with you. Not much fun pushing your bike.

Only MTBers carry chain links and breakers with them. Anyhow, he enjoys "pushing it hard". Little did he know the MTB gods were watching him :)

Monday is was climbing up towards tiekiedraai with my brand new tires just as I past Ntida Wine Estate, started shift and get speed for a decent...then suddenly...PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH! Brand new tire with 10km been cut by glass....of the 7 roadies that came past 5 offered me a tube, but my tire was cut halfway so the tube will pop out....

Roadies do help, even a mtbiker offered help.....so thats why I do both

I have given away more tube than I have needed for myself. I suppose it is all the sowing that has me reaping no punctures.....on monday morning I rushed through a broken bottle in my blindness......no puncture

I just enjoy seeing people out doing their thing

Ek't op Facebook gesien jy het vir jou 'n flashy carbon Scott gekry! Daar was nogal baie abuse gewees in die comments onder die foto! Jy moet onthou padfietse is vir klein meisies, so jy kan nie te hard trap nie... :D

I don't like moaning. And would surely not consider myself a roadie.

I prefer to stay positive and see each experience as an adventure.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect the problem is me not knowing how to shift
