Aww what the hell - let's poor some petrol on this here flammage... :P

I was determined to go local - need a new seatpost, 27.2mm. Thomson Elite inline.

Only I want a silver one - not a black one.

The first young-un at a LBS informed me you don't get silver ones. I considered referring him to my recent post, where I sold my old silver Thomson, but decided against it.

He was as keen to help me as what I presume Steve the Hof is to go and watch U2. Didn't even bother to offer calling the suppliers.

[As an aside - CWC also appears to only stock black ones]

The 2nd LBS also said he only knew of black ones, but would pick up the phone and contact the supplier.

As described by Drongo, "yes, yes, yes, I see, when?, WHEN? I see, Thank you".

Yes - they can get a silver one, but they will need to order it. But just for me. A "special" order - for me - special. I ask - "how long"? He says - wait for it - two months. TWO MONTHS!

I could probably make my own seatpost in TWO MONTHS. :cursing:

Now - don't get me wrong. The 1st LBS irritated me, and is why I'm using them less and less. The 2nd LBS did what he was supposed to - I have no beef with him, none whatsoever - he even rolled his eyes and said it's madness - that I may as well order through CRC. And of course that's exactly what I'm going to do.

My bike will be re-built at the 2nd LBS - but let's get one thing clear, it's not the LBS's that are the problem, it's the suppliers. They hide behind the LBS, and screw us all over. They're obviously not concerned with how things are going - so until the LBS's start making a noise (or, like CWC start going direct), it's going to remain unchaged....

We suffer - the LBS suffers - the Suppliers presumably don't. Madness.

My 2 cents.

RODTI !!! :cursing:

WHAT DO YOU MEAN..your "bike is going to be built at the 2nd LBS"??!!

I THOUGHT YOU WERE BUILDING IT YOURSELF.

hi people who order from crc clearly dont want to support local industry and shops , funny thing is ur bakup from crc is non existant and not even worth the effort maybe we should all try support local shops so that they will aventually be able to get stock and bikes at lower cost ,

aventually the local cyclists got g*tvol with being ripped off! So while we hope that the local bike shops will aventually get there, we support whoever treats our wallets the best, until the pendulum aventually swings the other way.

this is like an E TV sunday afternoon rerun omnibus

I wouldn't know. Sundays I ride!

But it sure beats Egoli, and that other reality chef thing where weepy f@gs and butch birds hurl sharp knives at each other, doesn't it?

No silly - I'm building the seatpost only (since I have two months)... :P

Ja - I've thought about it. But I'm stuck when it comes to taking the crankset/BB across. I can do all the rest. Granted - I've done zero research, so if it's easy-peesy, will do it myself, but will skip for now it requires tools I don't have......

Unless....

Unless - I put up an advert on the Hub - for a fellow Hubber with the required toolkit - reckon a bribe of several beers and a braai should get them out of the woodwork - and we can do a local drinking home-bike-build drinking session...

OMF. Genius!

Bull

Then the local shops better catch a wake up.

I buy from CRC because I get far better pricing and good service

Eventually se gat as long as you bend over and take it the local industry will keep raping you

+1

I can like to believe 100%, that if local guys were more competitively priced in line with CRC (CWC are getting close) every person on this hub would purchase locally. BUT THEY ARE NOT!

As the cliche goes - "money talks....."

Chris, I do hope you know that when WE (i at least) refer to CRC vs LBS....that you are grouped with the online side of the story! (CRC ...CWC...quite confusing? )

Keep up the good pricing - II'm off now to your site in search of some tublis tyres...
