ummm... ok, so I know it's not less than 500 ZA Ronds... but I got myself one of these (BB Mount) and I find it pretty awesome:

R513 from CRC (before VAT schpeel)

(but marked down from R1394... it's a pretty good deal)

When I read "BB mounted chain device" I was think of one that gets mounted between the BB cub and frame and does not use the mounts welded to the frame. Something like this. Sorry, don't know where to get them.

EDIT:

Look here at Take2. Shipping is free but it will take a month to get to you. I have ordered plenty of stuff from their US shop.

Good device!.

If you want to mount it between your BB cup and BB shell you will need to order the adapter with. The adapter takes the place of the BB spacer and gives you the ISG mount holes, if your frame does not have them.

Mamparas pic shows a guide plate that mounts between BB cup and shell.

Great, thanks guys.

Yeah, I meant the old style BB mount - not ISCG.

I ride a 2002 Orange 222 - before ISCG came into being.

I know of Take 2, but didnt realise they sold chain devices and all that - I knew they were good for Music.

I can get a Truvativ Box Guide for R700 from my LBS, but finances are tight and I was hoping someone would have something for half that??

But I guess I should just pull the trigger on the Truvativ.

Had a cruddy experience at the last provincials where I lost my chain on both my race runs!!!! It was infuriating to say the least, but I am bodging something for the race this weekend and then I will get a device (2nd hand or new) after pay day.

Thanks again for the help.

that e-thirteen that I posted earlier can be bought in OLD ISCG or ISCG 05. I ordered the adapter that Drongo mentioned to go with it, only to find out it included an adapter (so now I have a spare).

So yeah, that e-thirteen will work on a BB cup mount

It is black magic!!!! HAHAHA

It is a device/guide that stops the chain from jumping off the chainring over rough terrain.

On DH bikes only a single chainring is used on the front, and without the guide the chain bounces off.

There is usually a guide at the top to keep the chain running straight and a roller at the bottom to keep the chain tight onto the chainring.

It is mainly used in Downhill, Freeride, 4x etc and there are even devices that are compatible with double chainrings.

There is also generally a bash ring to prevent your chainring from bashing into rocks.

Here is a pic (this pic does not have a bash ring)

well... the red ones are cheaper than the other colour options (Blue, Orange, Clear)

Here's the link: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=50755

So Call it R510 for the red option.

(R510 x 15.4% VAT) + R60 Shipping (Royal Mail) + R25 Dispatch fee

= R720

So yeah... it's a little more expensive than the Truvativ at the end of the day. But if you can jump in on a free shipping order or even split share shipping with someone else, it'll bring the cost down a bit.
