I got the tip to close up small cuts on my tyres with superglue and used it on the tyres for my Carnival City race this morning.

This "tip" has been discussed on The Hub before.

Since superglue requires oxygen to cure, it would seem that even though it looked like it had cured, some in the tyre had not. On inflating the tyre, this came into contact and chowed the tube.

The result was a flat 45kms onto today's race. A nasty little section of tube had become brittle and ruptured.

My fault 100%...

So my recommendation: DON'T USE SUPERGLUE TO FIX TYRE CUTS. DO NOT LET IT ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR TYRES!!!

The cheapest experience is someone else's. Here's some for free.

Contact glue - but ultimately the tyre should be shelved or tossed and NEVER used for a race.... only training and carrying a spare fold-able tyre.

Contact adhesive in the cut, if it goes through the casing, put a gaiter on the inside. Depending on the cut, the gaiter can be a piece of old inner tube up to a piece of old tyre.

Got a screw through my tubeless during the week, wanted to put a patch inside the tyre today but ran out of glew so used superglue. Inflated, but imedately starting leaking until the new sealant took care of the problem. So, i dont think the superglue held up .... ?

I managed to fix a hole in my tyre’s bead last year with superglue and a tube patch 5 months later its still working 100%. Its a non-tubeless Kenda nevegal 2.1 that I run tubeless. The tyre was too new just to throw away.

So superglue definitely works with MTB tyres many other glues gets dissolved by the Stans.
