Local importer service

Just been talking to Coolheat importers and hey are they some rude guys. They seem to have no care in the world as to when the customer will get their new toy. They know they have buyers for all the frames they have ordered and if it takes 2 days or 6 weeks so what....

Then when I said that I will then rather ask a bikeshop overseas to ship the frame to me. "they will not do that, they are not allowed to"

Nice one again....thanks guys.

Then I called Ominco...this after I sent weeks of emails with no reponse only to be told that they will not have stock until "maybe" end of April...bisides their website not being up to date with broken links etc....

This is a joke now guys, learn fro CWC and pull up your socks.....

Interesting, importer says the goods are with the transport company, LBS says that they do not have a price from the surplier yet, but Importer says to me in an email that they paid for the good LAST YEAR allready.......

Why or why do we have importers.?

Coenie from my side I have had only good dealings with OMNICO. I am not sure what it is you are looking for. Is it a 29er! Damn those things are scarce! If you have problems with OMNICo please contact Lionel. He will help you.

I hope this sorts out your frustrations with local importers!

Here is the thing, omnico gets you to click on a link on their website to go the GT website....but the link is broken...then when you email them (I emailed all the contacts on their site) nobody responds.

The weblink tries to point you to the international GT site, and then when you ask the local guys "we dont have stock"

So why can I not order directly from overseas and lets bypass these middle men....false advertising I would call it.....

Coenie unfortunately I cannot answer this. But like I said earlier Lionel will be able to give you a fast direct answer. It might not be the answer you were looking for, but it will be answered.

What is the reason you cant order directly from a shop internationally.?

I buy lots of things internationally as do many others not necessarily bikes here but other products as well, why dont you just place the order internationally if you cant get it here.?

Some brands like Cannondale only sell through a dealer network who all are under an obligation not to sell over the Internet. The reasons for this are many, some good (keep up value added service retail channel) , some not so good (retail price control). Try find a 'dale on-line, besides e-bay, you can't, and its for this reason. Specialized is the same story I think.

Not only premier brand bikes: Meade Telescopes are the same.

Having said that, Cannondale and Meade are great American brands/ products. Its just a bit tricky and a hassle going through local channels when its questionable as to the value they actually add, and sometimes worth making another plan, like a visit stateside ;)

Oh, I cant see that been fool proof.

Its not even selling over the internet, call a shop in "Whichever Country" tell them what you want, pay for it by c/card and get a shipper to collect. I dont see any issue. I cant see how a supplier can control who a dealer sells to, its his stock, he has paid for it he can sell it to whoever he likes - or that would be my answer to any supplier who wanted to dictate my terms of sale. Not gonna happen.

Its no wonder the bike industry is in such a mess, protectionist selling is never condusive to the customer.

Yes not totally fool proof and you might be lucky to final a loop hole. Even when using a forwarding service like myus.com, they wont ship to separate address than your cc, and unless you have a bank account there or CC then they will pick up foreign payment. It's not only protectionism, a lot of Americans cant deal with or dont even know theres a whole world out there. Its a problem also with e-bay, a lot of sellers only ship to USA, and have no idea about shipping internationally or customs requirements.

One other solution is hook up with a buddy who lives there, send them some biltong and rooibos tea, TT them the money and have them re-ship the box and hope it all goes okay but that can go pear shaped and ruin the friendship since it can be messed if there is not correct documentation / insurance it can cause lots of problems when landing here.

i share some of the issues regarding local distributors, inflating prices and not always delivering on the after sales (or even pre sales for that matter) obligations.

Having said that, my experience with Coolheat (Jade) is quite good, theyve exchanged some defective Tacx DVD's that I bought directly from Tacx overseas (they wont if you bought from like CRC but Tacx yes) and the other day delivered the new software in a few hours notice at my local LBS to pick up, price better than what I would get overseas.

Yeah true in certain aspects. Retailers who do only local domestic business, I agree are very inward looking, but companies that do export are well aware of international markets and keen to sell into them.

American companies are quite aggressive when it comes to exports, and can and will negotiate price and delivery terms, unlike the East who are very regimented and are not keen to negotiate.

In my company we imported a lot of product from all over the world and mostly found the USA very easy to do business with on all levels.

The East just offers price, warranties and defect issues later usually get a "no unnerstand eengliish" reply......but thats okay, we accepted that was how it works and built it into our price, but usually it didnt matter as it was so cost effective to buy there we could afford to just replace IF there were faults.
