  1. I had the exact opposite with Momentum, they insured my bike as a motorbike and so I had to pay for third party insurance... Conversation went something like this... Momentum: You have to take third party insurance for a motorbike on this policy Me: But it's not a motorbike, it's a bicycle Momentum: No it's a motorbike Me: Well I don't want to insure a motorbike, I want to insure a bicycle Momentum: Well you still need to take third party insurance Me: That's so that if I crash into someone on the street their medical bills will be covered right? Momentum: Yes Me: Well I don't think I would ever be able to cause 1 million rand in damages with a bicycle Momentum: <Silence> Me: Nevermind... <Hang up>
  2. ...make sure your insurance is covering you for EXACTLY what you asked for even if you were very specific in the beginning, apparently they have no obligation to inform you of changes to your policy other than a small footnote in the terms and conditions of your annual policy letter. I was very specific with my insurance company (on the advice and multiple posts on the hub about getting the right insurance cover). I specified cover during races, while transporting the bike on the back of a car or locked inside a car etc. the least of my worries was while the bike was on my property. Supposedly all was in order until I actually needed it the other day when my gate was forced off the rails and my bike was stolen out of my garage. Turns out that the insurance gradually changed over the years to basically move from all-risks to (what I would call) household goods cover - even though it was still classified as all-risk cover. Basically, because my bike was not locked inside the main building and unattended they will not cover it. My gate being removed from the rails is not sufficient evidence of forced entry, they had to force the door to the building open as well for it to be accepted as a forced entry. So please all of you do yourself a favour and ask your insurance company exactly what they will or will not cover with regards to your bike and ask the same question every year to make sure you don't become a statistic like me and fall victim to slight amendments in the wording of the clauses.
  3. Sorry Tumbles, I just couldn't resist posting this. I was going to start a new thread for it but decided I would just post it in your existing thread...

  10. I get my SylvaSun at Checkers in Sandton City - Blue bottle goes for about R60 for 100 tablets i think It's not the ultimate solution to replace sunscreen and it's not going to stop you from burning but it definitely helps in certain situations - I've used it for years while riding and in particular when I used to do a lot of shallow diving and snorkeling. The only other thing that ever helped and didn't wash off in that situation was island tribe but it was mad expensive for a tiny bottle and played havoc on my masks and equipment, so I started using SylvaSun on advise from one of the skippers/spear fisherman in Mozambique and never looked back.
  11. Mine... Weightless going downhill and roughly 2 tons going uphill
  12. Number one sign of a Noob to the Hub... Which wheel size is better 26er or 29er?
  13. I bought Follow me directly from PinkBike with no hassles at all and then I also got it as a digital download from them after giving the DVD to a friend.
  14. Howsit all, I noticed an anomaly between 2 GPS devices after the Lionman. One unit read 45km and the other only tracked 42km. I overlayed the 2 tracks today to see why and besides the usual signal discrepencies I noticed a gradual increase in the difference between mile markers on each unit until eventually we were up to 3 km's apart at the same place on the track. Both devices were cellphone based GPS trackers so i'm not advocating that they should be perfect tracking tools or that all GPS devices are wrong i'm just curious to see the difference between devices in general - which leads me to my question... Can anybody send me a screenshot of the track they logged at the Lionman this past Saturday, i'd like to compare them as well out of curiosity? Thanks - Track overlay below for interest sake.
  15. That's really concerning, I was about to start using the spruit to commute from conrad to bryanston drive, guess i'll have to put that idea on ice for a while and do a few test rides around that area first
  16. Joe's No Flats - Not the biggest fan of it but it was a gift. The bottle will be finished after the new load of sealant thank goodness, then it's onto Stan's
  17. Good one - Just had to pick myself up off the floor
  18. Is this caused by CO2 or something else??? I've seen the usual 'rubbery web-like bouncing ball type clumps of silicone' that come out of a tyre after a CO2 bomb has been used but I've never seen anything like this before. My bike stood for a couple of weeks but the back wheel is perfectly fine still, so it can't be inactivity. The silicone seems to have hardened, it's very puzzling.
  19. Correct me if i'm wrong here but the Mallets aren't a one side no-clipless and other side clipless system - they allow you to use different shoes for different trails, if your shoes have cleats both sides will clip in. Again, I stand to be corrected on this but I don't think you even get a system like that - surely it would make the side you need really difficult?!? As a relatively new clipless user, I remember feeling exactly the same and still do on occasion but as you relax and get used to them it becomes just as simple as flat pedals. Having said that I still miss the flat pedals and will probably get into the habit of selecting my pedals according to the trail in future.
  20. - That's a massive draw card for me on international sites. I really hope SA catches onto this soon.
  21. I tried to buy a pair of shorts from them but unfortunately they had no stock. They followed up very quickly and gave me a full refund within 48 hours - so I guess that would mean they are reputable. I just can't say how delivery times etc. are - Hope that helps.
  22. What do you mean unwanted guest?!? I'm gonna feel so much safer riding Northern Farms now. Imagine the guys hiding in the reeds waiting to hi-jack a lonely rider when a hippo comes clambering over -> What an awesome thought for a friday
  23. Do you guys think 2-way radios and a bit of community policing might help? By that I mean, if NF were to allow anybody with a radio to tune into a security channel and report any suspicious activities on their route so that the fellows on the quad bikes can move directly to that area and check/clear it out. An up-side for us all would be that anybody else with a radio would be aware of the reports made and they can then avoid the area in question or wait until it's been checked out before riding into danger. This might help NF Security be more proactive and show a presence when undesirables are seen on the farm. What do you all think? PS: A format like this might work on all the routes in JHB where safety is an issue.
  24. Both points taken Intern... Just wanted to share my opinion --> Flame off --> i'll leave everybody to their own devices here.
