  1. Is the track open over weekends like it used to be on a Sunday morning?

    Creepy!

Thanks Grey Owl. The sound of its turbo will scared any ghosts away!

    Creepy!

Do we really need to know all this !!!!!
  4. Yes, let people use sport enhancing drugs if they want to, but let it be like applying for a licence. When you purchase your licence you either purchase a "clean licence" or a "drug licence" and you race and win according to your category. Those that want to OD themselves can be free to do so as long as they are prepared to accept the long term consequences and their medical aids (if they have one) are prepared to cover them as a special risk. We are all faced with an "enhancement drug" at some stage in our life. It's called choice whether it be choice of motor car or bicycle. But it is a choice that should be out in the open so that we all know exactly what we are dealing with and against what we are competing.
  5. Well done to Cherise and to the two Dimension Data guys!
  6. Does anyone know whether the Garmin could be traced throught its signal? Apparently if you have your cell phones serial number and it is stolen, the cell network can block or trace the phone. Would this apply to the Garmin as well? If you know the serial number of your Garmin unit, is there a central tracking station where the movement can be traced?
  7. Anyone seen if these are available in SA yet, if so, where ??? Anyone seen them at Argus expo?
  8. Anyone have any knowledge of the Solis frames or is anyone maybe riding oneat the moment and can give an opinion. Seem cheaper than other carbon frames on the market. What's the catch or are they OK?
  9. And Tiger doesn't play golf ... he sells wheels!
  10. No ... Neil Diamond was the singer, Neil Armstrong was the moonwalker, Louis Armstrong was the Jazz Singer (or was that Neil Diamond)? and Lance Armstrong, well he just pulled the wool over all our eyes.
  11. Will Lance Armstrong be firing the gun at Sunday's D2D to start the race? See he will be in J'burg for supper on Thursday.
  12. The funrider lady that was knocked down should just take it in her stride. After all, we are all going to bite the dust at sometime or other. She had her 15 seconds of fame .... not everyone can brag about being knocked over by a professional .... imagine being crashed into by Michael Schumacher ... what a thing to be able to tell the grandchildren!
  13. Is it just my imagination or does the normal motorist appear to have more patience or a higher tolerance level for the black dudes riding their "vegetable" bikes than for the the white okes in their lycra on their 50G bikes? Often see guys taking more time and care to pass one of these guys that looks like it's his only mode of transport and then have zero tolerance for the guy out trying to keep fit who has his BMW parked in the garage. What's the deal! Jealousy or guilt?
  14. The number of cyclists getting knocked down is really frightening and one hears almost nothing about it in the paper. If I wasn't on the Hub, I wouldn't be aware of half these accidents. This is the busiest time of the year for cyclists to be training for the Argus. When it is Easter or Xmas holidays, there is a huge push by the Traffic Department with their Arrive Alive campaign - there should be something of a similar vein done by the traffic department to make motorists more aware of cyclists at this time of year! If they can get it together over Easter or Xmas, what about Argus time as well!!!!
  15. What is the hill like up Golf Club Terrace (behind the Roodepoort Hyperama). It's the road where the guy used to play the bagpipes in the Florida Flat One road race? Is that quite tough to cycle up or is it not so bad?
  16. At race other day was looking at the guys different makes of bikes and began comparing them to makes of cars. How about: Raleigh - Toyota, because it's local and lots of guys ride them but would like something better. Specialized - Subaru, because they have class and lots of guys would love to ride one, but are scared the bike may have more talent then they can produce. Trek - Chevrolet, brash, american, looks good standing still, nice paint job, good window dressing a the bike shop. Feel free to add your opinions.....
  17. Colonel, seems to me the concensus is that the "guys with the mountain" are a bit slow on reaction time. Thanks all. Looks like I might be flogging my Argus entry next year - unless someone comes up with an idea of how to incorporate an airbag into the cycling jerseys.
  18. Maybe that was the problem - should have started in M, but forfeited to start in U with a friend. Would that have made much difference - the back okes could be just as suicidal as the front okes! But then at least the front guys know what they are doing by choice, the back guys seem to have not choice in what they are doing!
  19. Yaah, believe the only advantage us Gautengers have is that we need half the amount of air to get up Suikerbossie than the low level okes!
  20. Please can someone give me some opinions here. Was my first time doing 94.7 - absolutely shattered at speeds going down between Jan Smuts and Hyde Park - guys were going balistic! Water was pouring down road and guys were literally "aquaplaning" at 70km/h, not too worried if the fell and obviously not too worried if they took someone out with them! Just want to know - can I expect the same at Argus. Is "Hospital Hill" the same story as "Jan Smuts" if we have wet weather? I only felt "safe" on the road when I hit Witkoppen. Before that it was "suicide city". Didn't enjoy the 94.7 because of the weather and the "down hill" for first half the race. How has Argus weather been last 5 years or so. Basically, don't want to waste my money going to do Argus if it is much of the same as 94.7.
  21. Never done this thing before so where exactly does the Argus start? I know finish is in Beach Rd, Mouille Point, but which road does it start from or which suburb. Am trying to book accommodation, so what's it near to so I can walk/cycle to start without having to leave at 3am and get mugged over the head in the process? On second thoughts - what's better - to be near the start or the finish?
  22. Where on any website can I find a picture of the map they are using for the Vodacom 117km on Sunday. Cyclelab entry site doesn't show a map?
  23. Great idea, but let the money go towards getting a decent cycling club organised at Kyalami! Motorists don't want us on the public roads, now they have restricted the one place where we don't get in their way - where to now?
