I was training for Ironman in the dorp's swimming pool, right across Faure stadium.

I have Shimano SLX 10spd on. I can't find a bigger chainring for SLX anywhere (don't think they make it). Is it possible to put on a 48tooth on the outer? I see they sell a 48 tooth, but stated it's for 9 speed. Will it be just as simple as putting it on and everythings fine without adjusting anything else?

Is it possible to put a bigger outer chainring on a MTB to keep up with the roadbikes on the road? Or must you put on a whole new crankset. If so, do you need to change the chain or move the derailleur up? I just want to do this every now and again to do road races with my MTB.

I really don't have a choice. I don't have a road bike anymore, so I have to do it on a MTB.

I did many Argus tours on a road bike with many sub 3's. Next year I want to do it on a MTB. Do you guys think it's possible with the gear ratios and slicks on? And what was last years fastest time on MTB?

Another question regarding chains. I broke my chain this weekend and had to take out 2 links to fix it again. I just linked it together with the pin thats on the current link. I rode further without any hassles. Will this make a difference it I continue riding without these 2 missing links. I thought the gears will jump, but it didn't.

I did my first Ultra marathon on Saturday (Two Oceans) and it went very well. Everyone's always going on about the different sports drinks. I tried most of them through the years of cycling and running. When I entered Two Oceans, I saw that they will hand out Powerade at the refreshment stations. So I started training with Powerade. During the race, I only used Powerade and GU gels. Thats all. I did walk a few times, but my training programme advised me to do so, to save the legs. I got no cramps and even went a bit faster for the last 5km's. So why spend a lot of money on expensive sports drinks when Powerade works just as well.

Will it work if i cut the steerer of a fork shorter to fit my bike? What about the "thingy" (don't know whats it called) where you tighten the headset. It sits near the top of the steerer on the inside. Can that think be taken out and placed inside the shorten steerer again?

Nee, dit moes glad nie gebeur het nie. Die marshals het vir ons verkeerd gewys. Hulle het gedink dit is die kort roete ouens wat daar verby kom. So toe ry ons 53km i.p.v. 45km. Een positiewe ding uit hierdie hele fout is dat die organiseerders darem die nuwe 53km roete ook erken het en pryse gegee het vir die eerste 3 ryers. Ek was heel verbaas toe my naam uitgeroep word by die prysuitdeling. Wen toe nogal R500 kontant, twee bottels wyn en 'n reuse bottel Champagne. So die ekstra paar kilometers was toe nogal die moeite werd gewees.

Hi I don't know if this is a silly question, but from where to where do you measure the stem length?

Does anyone know what does a service cost of a front shock? And where can I take it for a service? I have a Rock Shox J3. I know it's a cheapie, but I need to service it. I went to my LBS and they say that they send it away and it will cost between R400 and R600. I think this is a bit steep. What do you guys think?
