No, only allow solo vs solo. Yes, the issue is to police that. But it could be the same now by disallowing ANY support/assistance from a fellow rider. Goes against the ethos of sport I know but like in Xc you want to see the best rider emerge. Not the best well backed-up team

what is the green bottle in? (Excuse my ignorance).A solid bike with not too many surprises. The obvious draw back (all be it a small one) is that the Era can't take a water bottle on the seat tube. Its a feature that many like about the Epic.

Very interesting DaleE and appreciate the feedback. My first hiccup was on Dusi day 2 this year which is a long paddling day and I have to admit that I wasn't particularly fit. I don't normally drink a lot and have only had the occasional problem over the years. (I have been doing Dusi for over 25 years and some days are like heat waves). Well would you believe that my second occurrence was about 30 minutes behind you on TransK - I had been drinking a mix of Ucan the entire day plus some water but I also imploded spectacularly on Ouberg. Cramps, nausea the works. Eventually had to have a drip at the top as I was dehydrated. I think some of my problem is that I am loosely following the diet so the body may not be fully adapted to burning fat.

Has anyone had 'problems' with using Ucan on very long rides or races? I am not referring to bonking but on two recent occassions, I have become dehydrated. I believe the advised mixing ratio may be too strong for me, inducing me to drink less (of the mix). This may well just be my own fault - I am not drinking enough water to supplement it. Obviously ione is also eating on such events (for me one was a canoeing event & the other a one-day non-stop MTB event, both > 5 hours). Just interested and wondering.

Ok, thankfully prices have come down despite the ZAR weakness (albeit more of late). However, there appear to be a few alternatives to the rather expensive SRAM XX1/X01 that r not being advertised. Is an XT groupo at R8k reasonable? There are now Shim clutch options that put a 1x11in reasonable reach. So are the other existing groupo options reasonable?
Previously you would have parked at the garage, riden west along the R560, over the Magalies river and then turned right onto the dirt road (R99, Nooitgedacht sign I think). To park now, drive 200m past the dirt road that one cycles on and turn left at a farm called Berlouri - drive stright up the hill, past a dam and straight through a gate into the farm and park under the trees. Cost per car is R20. This dirt road leading up to the farm can get extremely muddy - thick, black stuff. If it looks churned up, go about 500m further along the tar road, turn L onto a dirt road and take the first L again. You will come out at the farm with the gate on your right.
