  1. I am going. Trying to improve on last weekend!
  2. Reading though all the responses , it actually confirms a statement I have made on a race advertising that only the first 1000 finishers get medals. That is so wrong. It the last 1000 that actually needs the medals as for them it is a true accomplishment. The top finishers have so many medals already that it is a nuisance ...and as someone else explained to me, its about the time not the medal. Except podium medals - as that anyone wants.
  3. At the time it seamed quite serious .. I just could not let my HR below 170-180.That is very high for me. 157 is working rate. I had to stop about 4 times on that first hill to gasp for air. Something was not exactly right ..... and I decided to call it a day and go home before "they" have to take me. Even going downhill I had a HR of 150. Now please ... all the leave-your-HR-monitor-at-home-prophets I prefer to ride with one. Having said that.... I really wondered later whether I just should have waited a few minutes before turning around. Especially as the route really was not difficult up to that stage. Yes it was. He finished 30min before the cut off. He now call me every hour to ask something about mountain biking. Another one hooked And that is why I did not give him a change to turn around with me ....he would have wondered for ever... PS . You are a good friend riding with on his first race
  4. Was this at the Hex on Saturday in De Doorns? I am the one that actually did turn around. Wondered about him. Glad he made it and did not turn around.
  5. Well. I am still at the 0-20 And I prefer a medal as a pose to a water bottle - Not that I do any thing with it. It hangs on a hook on the hall stand next to my helmet. But it is like small steps on my ladder. Or that.. Got the T-shirt thing
  6. This race certainly had the nicest medal of all.... And I did not get one ( DNF ). I will definitely be back next year for one.
  7. Dare on................ Ek is nie bang nie of in elk geval te sleg. Pick your choice.
  8. Whaaaa!!!!! Snow? Nobody said anything about snow.... Edit : I don't do cold well.
  9. Cool Berry! If I am doiing the 35 and you are doiing the 55 ....and I am really, really lucky...then I will be waiting for you this time.
  10. Well said. Almost sounds poetic
  11. Not nice when it happens. It looks as if he modified that bike as it is too small for him.
  12. I buy the oats or instant oats, but I make a point of only buying oats of which the ingredients is only rolled oats or oats flakes. No additives or anything. Now bearing that in mind it is interesting the different brands the taste differs a lot. Some of them have the immediate gholf-ball-in-the-cheek effect and others actually taste good. ( I eat the oats with hot water- no sugar or milk) So what I am trying to say is have you tried to buy just a different brand?
  13. Woke up on Sunday morning to find my back wheel tyre flat....Now with all the doubts I had already..... I decided not to go. Had a nice ride on Monday in Eden to wards Jonkershoek side - eventually.
  14. Exactly what I am trying to avoid. - that skidding part. What baffles me is the Kenda is the knobbiest (?) , which means that one in front. But the Scorpion is thinner 2.0 as appose to a 2.6 ??
  15. OK so a while ago I had this tread goiing. I put the Larsen at the back, but it is time to change that tyre. So with the two left, in what combination do I use them now? If I can at all? Kenda: Designed to be the top choice for hardpacked to dry loose conditions. The broad low profiled knobs are engineered to stick. Scorpion: The scorpion's aggressive profile is ideal for soft, wet and muddy conditions.
  16. Just stumbled onto a recipe that made me think of this tread...... :D Have you tried this: I am sure you will have a great day..........or not? Looks like is its non fattening too. Whiskied Jungle Oats Ingredients: Servings: 2 Servings Size * 2 1/4-3 1/2 cups milk * 1 cup rolled oat * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 4 tablespoons whipped cream Choice of topping 1 * 4 tablespoons brown sugar * 3 -6 fluid ounces whiskey (2-4 shots) * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Choice of topping 2 * 3 -6 fluid ounces Amarula cream liqueur (2-4 shots ) Change Measurements: US | Metric Directions: Prep Time: 5 mins Total Time: 10 mins 1. 1 Bring milk to a boil. 2. 2 Whisk in rolled oats and cook for 3-5 minutes until thick. *If you prefer your oatmeal thinner, gradually add more hot milk until the desired consistency is achieved. 3. 3 Spoon into individual serving bowls, place a large dollop of cream in the center of each one. 4. 4 Topping 1: Sprinkle with the brown sugar. 17. O OK Thanks Sounds like you had a raw deal though!
  18. Were you part of the bunch in which I phoned at some or other farm house for directions? Just before I think the first waterpoint? I also got lost with a few others. Wondering how far the detour were.
  19. And I was right again..... And he was right also En hy was ook reg. Nie maklik nie, net baie klippe en slote om nie "verassingsfaktor" en onvoorspelbaarheid van die roete baie hoog te hou. Slowest 32km I have done ever! That is also a special skill
  20. The one about the milk and the palstic bag My link
  21. Yes ... after recalculation and conversion that is what I got too.
  22. Well I am 44 years old but only started to cycle 4 yours ago. But the problem is that I did not do any other form of exercise(jogging, tennis etc) before that. To start cycling was a very drastic lifestyle change for me. This means I have no previous experience or knowledge that I can apply to what I am doing now. So in the training world I am a four year old child. I tried to read and get information on the internet, but to be honest, there are so much information you need to make a decision that I find it almost impossible. You also have conflicting facts or you need the knowledge to know when to apply what...... and asking fellow cyclist is like opening a can of worms - especially here on the hub. I trained myself from a 24km/h ave to a 22.5km/h. I honestly believe that -in my case - a coach is the only way not to hurt myself even further. Small children need guardians
  23. O OK. At least now... I will be able to sleep the next few nights. But yeah. Looks like the terrain can be challenging by it self. Or how does the real MTB'ers call it? Technical.
  24. Ek is ingeskryf, maar ek vermoed ek gaan DEFINITIEF my fiets stoot ook Saterdag.
