  1. It seems Strava has just overhauled their subscription model, and the Training Log is no longer in the free subscription. Money is tight now and I'd rather not subscribe if I can avoid it (my ASICS are at 1800kms and coming up for replacement so that's priority #1). I find Strava did most things I needed except manually adding a workout WITH an associated route for those times when the phone messed up or went flat. What's the favourite running workout app here, and your feelings about the new Strava pricing model?
  2. I would absolutely buy one of Sarel's cars - they're awesome. (OT but worth telling because the guy's humor is up there with veteran pilots) I was at Zwartkops a few years ago, chatting to Peter Lindenberg in the pits when Sarel strolled by. Peter called out "Hey Sarel, how's that Galaxie going?" to which Sarel replied (with a completely deadpan expression) "Jirre boet, those brakes... when you hit them at the end of that straight the only thing that changes is your expression".
  3. Bliksem! Must have used some big Hilti nails.
  4. Did the first 10k run in weeks on Friday and it felt easy, though not fast. Skipped yesterday, but today's 10k felt like there was no fuel in the tank. I guess it's going to take a bit of time to get back. Quite a few runners out in Fourways this morning, but I was disappointed by the number of cyclists riding in groups on Cedar Road. Social distancing, not much.
  5. Maybe they were in the (pain) zone? It's been a while.
  6. Aviocar
  7. Saw this circling the neighbourhood this morning. Spotting for the troops maybe?
  8. I guess a Buff will work too? I use it at the shops and put a doubled tissue inside the fold, over the nose.
  9. It's a sad day when the SAAF can put more aircraft in the sky than SAA.
  10. With all those aircraft parked up there's probably a fair bit of work to be done? I hope that's the reason.
  11. I see this aircraft flying from Windhoek to JNB and back a few times a week, even during this time. I wonder what it's doing? Diamond deliveries?
  12. Interesting - I didn't know that diabetes was a no-go for airline pilots. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/16/us/faa-pilots-license-diabetes/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_latest+%28RSS%3A+CNN+-+Most+Recent%29
  13. Wilderness, in the Cape. They also had a kitten, and happily it ended well.
  14. That's how you do self-isolation like a boss.
  15. Interesting to see how many tourists are still stuck in Cape Town. https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/watch-exclusive-look-inside-cape-town-stadium-where-6-000-tourists-are-preparing-to-fly-home-20200409 Looks like the charter flights are coming in to fetch them now. With luck they'll be home for Easter.
  16. This image - a canoe in the desert. The caption possibilities are endless. Thanks for sharing.
  17. For me the beauties are VC-10, 727 and 707.
  18. Amazing. There was that theory that all the world's aircraft couldn't find enough place to park all at once, but that myth's busted now.
  19. Sunday morning 08h40. One King Air, and a chartered 737 inbound from Nairobi. That's it.
  20. The estate management determined that residents can go out singly and maintain their social distance after the Minister of Police clarified his position on Radio Jacaranda last Friday. But the clear message was - within the estate, not on public roads. "Walking and cycling on your own within an estate will be allowed, says Cele. Police Minister Bheki Cele clarifies lockdown uncertainties on Breakfast with Martin Bester" https://www.jacarandafm.com/news/news/cele-clarifies-no-jogging-no-walking-dog/
  21. I did my 10k on the estate this morning. Even with a calf strain from Thursday's "last" run it felt good and I feel very fortunate. I hope all runners get through this okay. We complain about the uncertainty and confusion around our favourite events, but in the end all we really want is to be running.
  22. I hope this is true. (and I hope the estate management reads it) https://businesstech.co.za/news/government/384585/yes-you-can-walk-your-dog-and-go-for-a-jog-during-lockdown-minister/
  23. It's looking like any kind of outdoor activity or training is verboten, even on the residential estate. Anyone heard different? Or am I going to be doing burpees and star jumps for the next 3 weeks?
  24. An early onset of cabin fever? Us Saffers can't sit inside for too long, even with Netflix on offer.
  25. This is a great thread. Always worth coming over to see the comments. It occurs to me that we runners are very fortunate, because we can go on running as usual while gyms etc. are being closed or restricted. It also occurred to me, watching a few cycling groups going by me in Fourways on Saturday, that group riding is way too close for social distancing, especially when drafting. I guess snot rockets will be banned (at last)?
