  1. Or maybe even connect with Saffers in NZ (I believe there are one or two there) who want to get funds to SA for family here. Split the difference on the exchange rate (that's where you get royally shafted by the banks) and save on fees. We do that with family in the UK and it works well.
  2. Modifying the old saying: Those that can, do. And those that can't, moan and bitch. I've painted my own bikes and on my best day I can't get close to Bogus's rejects. I'm in awe of the skills and impressed by his readiness to do the right thing. Next time I need a bike painted it won't be done by me (and hopefully I can afford to get it done right).
  3. Mad Max, Saffer style! Mechanic dude should be wearing leather BDSM kit, and have a driving seat on the disselboom facing forward.
  4. This looks epic!
  5. Pilot's dumped girlfriend used her nail scissors to inflict revenge.
  6. Or simply swap them out with Mango, they won't mind the colour.
  7. Just a quick shout out to LWB and the good people at SAA, to wish you strongs in these difficult and uncertain times. It can't be easy and we feel your pain.
  8. Looks like LWB's new baby is getting a shakedown flight. But the colour scheme looks odd!
  9. +1 I run with earphones at low volume and I can still hear cars behind me. I find the music helps my rhythm and I also get my timing called out on Strava so I'm not relying on my own perceived effort (which usually will try BS me completely).
  10. Do it! C25K works. You might even be encouraged to do the 5to10K bridging program after.
  11. Did anyone here get good deals last year on the Black Friday sales? Which retailers are worth watching? (I'm looking for new road shoes)
  12. I've just had my first sighting of an A350 (LATAM) flying overhead. That's one big-ass bird!
  13. Start the week with an F16
  14. Put that way, yes it doesn't take much in the way of a system.
  15. Maybe O'Hanlon's razor applies here: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." However, I'm not suggesting the organisers are stupid, but rather that they may not have the capacity or a system in place for substitutions.
  16. What remarkable airman-ship! I wonder if they could have pulled that off with "modern" technology in the cockpit?
  17. Could be shoes, hip misalignment, anything. Most common reason would be trying to do too much, too soon and not enough rest days. Even 20 minutes is a long stretch after 0kms. I was in the same boat earlier this year and started by doing the C25K program. The first week you do more walking than running and you'll think "this is dumb, I'll never get to 5k or 30 minutes non-stop in 9 weeks", but it picks up while giving you enough recovery time and a surprising increase in speed and distance. My average week now is 50-60kms and last Saturday I ran a personal 10k TT with a couple of km sectors in the high 4minute zone for the first time (that really pleased me!). Bottom line: don't do too much too quickly. And check out the YouTube running channels - lots of useful advice there.
  18. So true. If I do a 25k on a Sunday the last 3kms really hurt. If I do a 21k then the last 3kms hurt. I think if I do a 42k then the last 3 kms will hurt. I think there's a synaptic connection between my legs and the "home" location on the GPS I'm carrying.
  19. A neat explanation of the "pickle fork" problem:
  20. I wonder where they would get Merlin engines now? Are those rebuilds of existing engines?
  21. May be satire, but it really sums it up.
  22. Early morning takeoff for Russians
  23. If he enjoyed this and wants to do more builds then I'd recommend finding your local scale model club and going to a couple of meetings. (And they'll come over and drink with you until the urge to build a model passes! Kidding.) You get some great advice and ideas, and there's often a swop meet where you can pick up kits and parts cheaper than at the LHS. (about "parts" - those resin or photo etch grade up kits add incredible realism and accuracy, but at a cost. They do keep the rivet-counters quiet though.) Another thing to consider if he's going to build more kits - an airbrush for painting. Way better finishes and it preserves the finer (panel) details. It's a fun hobby for kids and grownups, and an opportunity to learn about the subjects.
  24. Interesting thought. Aviation economics is part art/ part science. This guy on YouTube is quite interesting on the subject. https://www.youtube.com/user/Wendoverproductions And if you want to understand how low cost airlines (Ryanair) really work, read this book on Michael O'Leary. : https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asin=B002RI9PRC&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_stdPDb5C6426A While it's O'Leary's biography (he's like LA - you're a fan or you hate him) it also explains how the Ryanair business model works. And it's not what you think.
  25. I think Airbus knows the value of playing the long game, like China.
