  1. Which shop is this? I would love to try them out next time I'm in the area. (which is Friday)
  2. Such a good album this... My dad had this on vinyl... I always used to ask him to play me 'Come Away Melinda'
  3. Not too long ago you only got ABS on a very high end BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S Class. Now I think their might be one or two cars on sale in SA without it. (which I would not buy on principle for that reason, but anyhoo) As stated above new tech always costs a lot but will eventually get more affordable and trickle down.
  4. Sheesh.. thats actually a very cool bike.
  5. So are you guys saying that if I put this groupset on my hardtail Totem with rim block brakes I'll be doing it wrong?
  6. Having read through this entire thread now, there are a lot of albums which would be on my list which have been mentioned already. It pleases me no end when I see that there are actually other people in SA who listen to or even know the music I listen to. The circle of people I can talk music with is virtually non-existent. At work, not a single person. I have cycling buddies I’ve sweated long hard miles with whom I have zero in common with musically. Anyway, onto the actual topic of the thread… Interesting one for me, as I am a bit of an anomaly, I guess. I still buy CDs. Yes, really. And I pay for downloads when I can't find he albums which is more often than not the case now. And I try always download in Hi Res if I can. Very occasionally I’ll go visit Mr. Vinyl near Awkward Park. I have some albums in 3 or 4 formats or editions. I do not stream. I don’t like renting music and I don’t like how little the artists get paid. $5 for a million streams doesn’t seem that fair to me. A couple of years ago I stumbled onto an app made by Onkyo which allows me to play WAV, FLAC and ALAC files on my iPhone. So I have a 256gb phone with approximately 252gb of hi res or at least CD quality music on it. And that’s’ how 80% of my listening is done these days. As for the actual albums I would say are essential? Well, I have arguably all the ‘classic’ rock albums… All the Pink Floyd remasters, all the Led Zep remasters, all the Beatles remasters (the stereo studio albums, at any rate) Doors etc. But I’ve realised that classic album doesn’t necessarily mean one you listen to often or on repeat. For example, I listen to Pink Floyd’s Animals way more than I do DSOTM. In Fact on my phone Animals and Wish You Were Here are a ‘double album’ playlist. There are albums I cannot be without. I may not listen to them daily or even weekly but I have to hear them on regular rotation, no matter what phase I’m going through (like when I listen to nothing but Frank Zappa or Shawn Phillips for days on end, driving the wife bonkers) I will always return to them and these arguably get played more than most. Often, (but not always) I find the album an artist is most known for is not the one I listen to most often. Some of these, in no particular order, are: David Baerwald – Triage Roger Waters – Amused to Death Johnny Clegg & Savuka – Heat, Dust & Dreams Miles Davis – Kind Of Blue Johnny Cash – American III: Solitary Man Jimmy Smith – Midnight Special/Back At the Chicken Shack (Two albums drawn from the same recording sessions and also perfect when played back to back) Neil Young – Silver & Gold Bob Marley & The Wailers – Exodus Frank Zappa – Overnite Sensation Love & Money – Strange Kind Of Love Tears For Fears – Seeds Of Love Crosby Stills & Nash – Crosby Stills & Nash Steely Dan – Aja Steely Dan – Gaucho Deacon Blue - Raintown Audioslave – Audioslave Daft Punk – Random Access Memories Bob Dylan – Blood On The Tracks Paul Simon – Hearts and Bones Van Morrison – Moondance Norah Jones – Come Away With Me Tom Petty – Wildflowers Robin Auld – Heavy Water John Mayer – Born & Raised Dave Alvin – West of the West Karen Zoid – Media Dave Brubeck – Time Out Tom Waits – Blue Valentines Paul Weller – Stanley Road Stevie Wonder – Hotter than July Ray LaMontagne – Trouble Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska Big Country – The Crossing Jason Isbell - Southeastern Tracy Chapman – Greatest Hits (Including this because it is a great overview from all her albums but especially as the songs are remastered, showing how much we need a remaster of that seminal debut album of hers) Mark Knopfler – Sailing to Philadelphia Dire Straits – Love Over Gold I could go on and on…. There is so much good music out there and I discover more every day.
  7. Happy to say these have been transferred. Thanks everyone for the messages and good luck to all participating.
  8. Hi Folks Due to unfortunate circumstances my partner and I will not be able to do this. We have two entries available. Not expecting any reimbursement, I just really want them to go to someone who will partake in the race. Please send me a PM if you’re keen. Thank you.
  9. Very very glad your sweet little girl is doing okay and will mend. I cannot even imagine how much of a fright hearing about something like this must be to a parent.
  10. Finally just released her debut album and it does not disappoint.
  11. Submitted E Filing 1 July 2018, payment received in my account 24 January 2019… Better late than never?
  12. Seeing Morello on stage with Springsteen, Nils Lofgren and Steve Van Zandt back in 2014 was pretty damn cool.
  13. Fascinating. This blows me away: Given the estimated worldwide air traffic of about 37,800,000 flights, the accident rate is one fatal accident per 2,520,000 flights. We are in far more danger every time we get on our bikes or in our cars. Every time.
  14. Kelly Preston is a serious babe. I read that they finally split recently?
  15. I am also really good at stuffing things like that up. A few weeks back I changed from Conti’s to a Vittoria Barzo 2.35 in front and a Saguaro 2.2. in the back. I noticed that unlike the Barzo, which is unidirectional, the Saguaro can be fitted one way for 'speed' and one way for 'traction'… First time I’ve seen that!
  16. The laptop I'm typing on right now is on Windows 7. I haven't done a single update on this machine since 2015. When it eventually falls over, I will get a nice new shiny laptop but it will have Windows 10... Apart from sounding like a 747 taking off in a storm pretty much all the time, it (touch wood) works just fine.
  17. Also remember hearing that once and it blew my mind. Same as there are apparently not enough parking spaces in London and NYC for the yellow cabs/taxi's to all be parked at the same time, a minimum of 80% have to be on the road at all times.
  18. Was there in 2012. A few months before the shuttle was installed on the ship. In fact we actually saw the shuttle on it's 747 taxi parked at JFK. So much on the Intrepid blew my mind but the biggest thing for me was finally ticking seeing a Concorde off my bucket list. I'll look on my external drive for some of the pics from that visit.
  19. Not even a 308GTS or 12 cylinder Daytona?
  20. From my front stoep I can see the new pits at Toby’s playground. Whenever they have an event with aerial displays I always run outside to watch the planes… they usually come right over my head for a lot of the exhibition. I’ve given up filming with the phone because when you watch it back it’s never as wow as watching it in the moment. Doesn’t matter how often you see the Pitts or Harvards doing their thing, it always blows you away. Speaking of the Harvards, as a little kid we lived in Nigel for a while, not far from the flying school. The silver and orange Harvards flying overhead were a daily part of life. Miss that.
