  1. Did the 54km in 2016 and 2017. Lots of fun.
  2. I get coffee on a daily basis from the new Seattle in Sandton across the road from Sandton City as I work in a building there. I also regularly frequent the ones at The Wedge and Chili on Top. All top class staff and superb, consistent quality coffee. I haven't had to say what I want for a long time now, even if I'm standing in a queue I don't have to say anything and the order is put through for my 'regular'. Love that kind of service.
  3. On one of the Jozi Freedom Rides I did a year or two back, we rode into Soweto on a road or roads with Rea Vaya lanes. Some guys, especially people on road bikes, nearly came badly a cropper when they unexpectedly went over the bumps in the road.
  4. Ever seen this? If you know a bit about Aussie music, it's pretty cool.
  5. Crikey... I thought I was bad with one tall cap a day...
  6. Gotta love the barista's at Seattle...
  7. When the Starbucks opened at Mall of Africa, people queued out the door for what seemed like hours to try it. Ridonkulous.
  8. Seattle make damn good coffee, better than Starbucks IMO.
  9. Mugg & Bean Woodmead are very patient and accommodating. So are Vovo Telo at Waterfall Corner, and they have pretty decent coffee. Remo's at Waterfall Corner have great food and are lovely if you arrive in civilian clothes but will ask you to leave if you are in cycling gear.
  10. Was there this morning. I've never seen the black jacks this bad before. We were coated in them after 5 minutes on the single track.
  11. Not quite as fancy as some of your stunning equipment on here but this bike has made me very proud and very very happy for a year and just under 4000 muddy, rocky, sandy kilometers. This is after this morning's ride from Kyalami to Modderfontein and back. Pre-wash, of course.
  12. I did yesterday... First time on that trail/section, was going as quickly as I felt comfortable, and realised I had someone right on my tail. There was a section with a small split and I tried to go left so he could take the right but my front wheel washed out from under me.... Lots of roasties and a lekker bruised shoulder and chest today.
  13. Rode this yesterday for the first time. Superb trail. Some of the nicest single track I've ridden in ages. Fast, flowing, really nicely done.
  14. Just finished watching your Extended Cut. Very very cool. Anyone asks me what it's like doing JUMA, I'm just sending them the link for your video. You were MUCH faster than me though.
  15. Well done! This was not my first race, but I've only been doing MTB races since 2015 so still feel like a newbie sometimes. The race yesterday was an absolute blast. I was amazed by the pace, my average was 23km/h, which I have to attribute to the race being so flat. I was also surprised by the 50km being more like 44... Next month is JUMA which is also a blast, More elevation and technical bits than yesterday, but well worth trying if you're keen.
  16. I did the 30km race. I must admit I also thought it was open to people taking short cuts... several sections where you cut off for a loop on the 30 or 50 but you could have gone straight and no marshals were there to see... Enjoyed the race but Modders need to work on repairing rain damage. The reeds are in a poor state at the moment.
  17. Hi Folks Been a while since I posted, stuffed up my log in so started a new profile... I actually came back onto the forum to specifically look for a thread on riding in the prison and, voila... I live next to the golf course and for ages I've wondered about riding in the prison grounds. a few weeks ago a mate and I tried it. At 4am nogal. It was amazing. the guard at the gate unlocked the padlock and let us in without a quibble. we rode all around, saw the herds of buck, rode on the single track next to the race track, on the tar roads past the houses (like time warping back to the Sixties) and everyone we saw gave a friendly wave and/or smile. Some of the prison warders look like if they gave you a snotklap you'd wake up in 2017 but we have had no issues so far. We've since been back a few times now. Not the best place to ride but it's close and convenient for me so I guess until I have a bad experience I will continue to go there. I will say though I won't wear orange kit, just in case....
