  1. Have a set of 3x9 Alivio shifters. The rear shifter had a crash and the lever took a knock but it is still working 100%. Free to a good home
  2. Did get a set op spd's yet?
  3. My commuter bike celebrates is 10th birthday today. We have done almost 42 000km together. It is a Silverback Reno, 2007 model. Bought at the LBS the moment it landed on the floor. Still my favourite bike. I have 4 at the moment. I changed a few components over the years but the frame, brakes, front derailleur, wheels and shifters are still original. Some of the best money ever spent.
  4. The whole extended family in and paid for. Accommodation was sorted two months ago already. See you on the roads!

  6. Jammer om te hoor.
  7. Thanks! Pedestrians all over are a species like no other.
  8. With all the extras like lights and bells etc your will barely have space for grips one of these days I probably should have ringed the bell but what baffles me is that she made eye contact and could see the approaching traffic and still continued on her merry way.
  9. I have said for the last couple of years that in my experience pedestrians are worse than cars. And lo and behold yesterday I had a collision with a pedestrian who was walking in the road. About half to three quarters of a metre from the sidewalk which at that specific stretch of road is actually quite broad to cater for the masses. She didn't move out of the way even though she could see the traffic approaching from behind me. So I hit her with the handlebar because I couldn't swerve out for her otherwise I would have been hit by a car. She immediately claimed that the car caused the accident and that she was on the sidewalk. Luckily nothing is broken except my temper. Grazes on my knee and a hole in my elbow. Best of all is my helmet who save my head.
  10. The R501 is the road from Potch to Viljoenskroon. It is sketchy at best. I live on a smallholding on that road and can testify to drivers and cyclists/commuters not always considering one another.
  11. That is lucky! I'm a big fan of WTB saddles myself. It is just a mission to find them in my part of the world.
  12. Beautiful! Where did you get the saddle?
  13. Ek wonder ook altyd. Mens voel sleg om hulle net so te los.
  14. To everybody riding tomorrow, enjoy and I hope to meet a few hubbers in Parys. NS. It is quite hot today, remember the hydration and sunscreen!
  15. I heard there's a nice pub in town...with a choice of 70 beers!
  16. The Tygerfontein (Tierfontein) road mentioned as the course for the 50km is actually a dirt road. I think they are referring to the Schoemansdrift road which is a tar road for 25km out and 25km back which will give you 50km.
  17. I have an entry available for the 66km.
  18. I have a Mountain King on my bike that is wobbling at the moment. Also thought it was the wheel not running true but it was not the case. Even switched the tyre from back to front (had 2 MK's on the bike at that stage) but it made no difference. And yes, it is quite annoying. For now I will leave it because nothing else is wrong with the tyre.

  21. I've been commuting through winter for a number of years. If you keep on cycling through autumn to winter to summer your lungs will adjust to the cold (mine does). The biggest issue for me is the running nose (snot rockets), which is actually a blessing in disguise because I get a nice sinus rinse everyday. Sorry if it's a bit gory, but it is a fact of cycling . As previously said, dress proper but don't overdo it, you don't want to create a sauna and then have to cope with the cold once you get off the bike.
