  1. yes only a decent length ride will reveal the full impact, but from the short ride I did post changes its already felt better. And it was very visible in the before and after videos.
  2. I've just come back from a follow up session with my bike fitter. I thought I was pretty close on my setup after having changed my saddle a year or 2 back, but some slight changes from his side and I'm so much more relaxed on the bike. Will give it a good test tomorrow morning.
  3. bumping this for monday morning, hoping some of the more experienced will be able to give some input.
  4. Did some checking. It is indeed an SS, and they did put a longer hanger on. the short piece of gear cable outer was sitting strange and way to long, and the cable end was frayed like crazy, so I shortened the outer and cleaned up the inner as well as putting and end cap on. re-tensioned and everything seems to work well, looks to be like there is enough clearance and the chain appear to wrap nicely around all gears in all combos.
  5. Torque wrenches are designed to be held by the grip on the handle, gripping closer to the front or adding extensions renders them in-accurate.
  6. So it looks for now that the bike shop fitted a shortcage RD instead of the medium cage RD. The box and invoice indicate this, I'll have to pull the bike onto the stand this afternoon and check the actual RD to make sure. They may have put a longer derailleur hanger on but I need to check a little closer. Will the shortcage with a longer hanger work properly on my 11-32 cassette ? If not I'll be kicking up a little stink to get them to swap it out.

Didnt know him, but recognise the name from posting on thehub. Always sad to hear of the passing of someone you may have interacted with. RIP
  8. And how big a chunk of change it is depends on your perspective. Chatting to the guys at the bike shop yesterday whilst picking up my bike, I remarked that I'd like to one day changed the hybrid hydraulic brakes on my giant to full hydraulics. The one guys is like, "it wont cost much", proceeds to pull up pricing on his pc and then "its only about 10k" Well 10k is only slightly less than I paid for the bike, might as well sell and buy something new. To which I get the reply, "you should go full carbon with electronic shifting"
  9. Courtesy of a pulley bolt stripping itself, upgraded from the 5800 to 7000. Will McGyver repair the old one and keep as spare. Its been an expensive month for me w.r.t. cycling. EDIT !!!!!! Please see the end of this thread for possible issue
  10. thats what i do for my longer rides (4 hours +) , has enabled me to keep the edge 130 going for a 12 hour stint. The current state of the battery does not allow more than 60 minutes use in this cooler weather, so I stick the garmin in my pocket to keep warm when I do early morning rides.
  11. now you're most definitely opening up a can of worms here. What is your professional time worth ? When you take your car to a mechanic, they charge by the hour ? When you go to the doctor, they bill you for that time. Should that solution not work and you have to go back again, they will bill you again. What is your long term health worth ? You have flat feet with added complications caused by that, I would not mess around with cookie cutter solutions, you need something customised to YOUR issues.
  12. Interesting enough I'm reading an article on Escape Collective and this is a quote from one of the paragraphs
  13. already did that. Although some of the questions should have had a N/A option
  14. Besides dialing in your position for comfort, a bike fit will also dial it in for those few extra watts. I've going for my 3rd session with Richard on monday. First one a few years back, then I changed some parts on the bike and went for a follow up, but I've been getting some neck pain lately so going for another follow up. He is not hugely pricey and I've always felt slightly better on the bike after having him tweak things. Also as you get on in years your mobility changes, so its good to have a follow up every couple of years.
  15. for a podiatrist go and visit Michael Els at Morningside Clinic I also have flat feet, never thought I needed corrective soles for cycling, but I was there getting soles made for my daughter and was chatting to Michael, he knows his stuff, made me a set of narrow soles specific for cycling.
  16. This was July 2020. I fixed this by inserting another bolt and locktite'ing a nut on the other side. This weekend I struggled to get my new rear tyre to seal, so I inserted a tube and visited Cycle Lab yesterday for new rim tape. They dont have any narrow tape in stock on the shelves, only a 100m roll that they use in the workshop, so today I dropped the bike off with them and made the rear tyre their problem. I then get the dreaded call that something is wrong. Turns out as the technician pulled on the RD to put the wheel back in the second pulley wheel (i.e. not the one I fixed) tumbled down to the floor. Stripped thread. Over the phone I thought it was the one i fixed, so I went and popped in with them to see, the one i fixed is holding strong. Any hat, new RD on its way to the East Rand from the fourways branch, but it looks like it wont get here today, so I'll only get my bike back on Thursday
  17. Finished the last episode of season 1 last night. We enjoyed it, looking forward to the next season.
  18. oh ok, I did not ride out that way last week.
  19. and I see the price of them has gone through the roof lately, I think I'll either be buying another pair of Vye bibs or will splurge and get a pair of Assos. I like my current Corsa 1.0s, but cant justify spending over 2k for bibs that people are reporting the same issues you have.
  20. I wonder if this is not them, although it looked like they were building shacks and not dismantling https://ewn.co.za/2023/08/06/tembisa-residents-threaten-to-protest-after-being-removed-from-land
  21. Possible new danger area. R25, running parallel to R21, just behind the Engen and the new Value Logistics building going up, a big group of informal residents were building their shacks there this morning, right next to the road. looked like it was arranged space for them, there were toilets and cops were watching no incidents yet, but be on the look out of you ride past there.
  22. New tyres just roll so nice shoveled 3 cubic meters of top soil onto the grass after this ride
  23. This is why bikers always want louder exhausts, they're all wearing ear plugs or are already deaf. On a related note, My manager's son has cochlear implants, in order for them to work he wears bone conducting hearing aids. Problem is, he cant get his helmet on with the hearing aids on, so he is effectively riding deaf.
