  1. I'm not sure i agree with the cardio vascular statement, surely you need strength in an endurance sport like cycling? Need that leg strength to get up the hills? If i sat on my trainer all day doing 39x23 spins at 120rpm my cardio would get quite good but my leg strength would be poor and i would fall back on the hills, comments please..... Go and search the forum - just before Christmas there was a fairly in depth thread on this where I posted some of the evidence supporting my claim. It has been proven that the average non cyclist has sufficient strength to compete in endurance cycling - and that increasing leg strength does not improve performance - the ability of the CV system to supply 02 to the working muscles (aerobic capacity) is what it is all about. So - if you sat on your trainer in 39x23 - at the correct intensity, you would climb to the best of your ability. So then it really comes down to, you either have it or you don't senario?
  2. No - less power, but faster acceleration (lower weight, better fast twitch recruitment) but in anything but a pancake flat race (like a tour sprinters stage) Boonen will be there at the end but Robbie won't even be in sight. Look at the spring classics like Flanders - you have to be able to climb and sprint to win those (Boonen can, Robbie can't) But if has a lower weight and faster twitch muscles surely his power to weight is better and he should climb better?, then what makes a good climber?

  4. 1200 watts i'm usually cooking, need to go back and see what speed i was doing, damn 2100 is incredible.....i'd have to attach a bionic leg to see that on my screen, why are you not getting to the finish? the hills?
  5. can ride this bike after a hectic trance party..
  6. I don't believe tat they are correct in that philosophy. fortunately thereplanty of choice in the market.. I rode the giant tcr0 for a few years, didn't like it at all, the back wheel kept stepping out on the rough stuff and the ride is not nice, the fitting is ok but the CERVELO R3 kicks it's ass........in weight and ride comfort.
  7. 2100.........H%^^&^ **** and i thought my sprint at 1200w was good...damn you must have a good finish...
  8. Jip, made that mistake riding the epic on resin pads, all i can say is that i now have running legs and we were begging for the uphills on stage 1......
  9. instead of seeing blue flashing by it's going to be glowing orange with white spokes..
  10. Jip team tactics play a huge role in the leagues, if riders are upfront you can count on their riders to sit at the back which is fair, that's racing for you, but that is basically the end of the ride.
  11. At 71kg and 300w Turk should be ok to get up with the second bunch and then it will all come back together. Not tying to cheer you up or anything but the climb on Sunday last looked like this... First 4 mins 345w Total climb 301w I was dropped after 4 mins @ just under 5w/kg after a burst of 345w for 4 min i would have slowed down to snales pace to recover, and you were still able to maintain 300w, very cool, i would have probably dropped back to around 260w.....must go and climb it today and see what i power i average...
  12. I totally agree with you but i just hate to suffer that's why i like the rolling courses the pain only lasts for short bursts but on the climbs it just feels like it won't end, and the food trying to creep up my throat doesn't feel quite right.....
  13. if i recall in previous years Fatty was one of the evil ones who put everyone in the red before the climbs, with your new team i'm sure your team leader will request the same kind of action from you? i suppose you'll be doing this again before ou kaapse?
  14. may skip sundays race and just do a coffee ride, this suffering thing is horrible, and the teams don't help the situation, they burn a few of their own riders off before the climb so the rest of us are toast at the bottom...
  15. riding SV but i suffer like hell, i prefer the rolling courses to the summer league, a course like Bonnivale suites me, these climbs in the summer league just make me not want to ride, what's the point, end up getting dropped and probbaly won't get back to the front bunch, sucks....
  16. Hi Bikemax, my last session i did a 20km tt at 303w, and i weigh 71kg, is this good or just average? i still get blown away on the climbs....
  17. CAMPAG RULES....................
  18. Yeah me, i dont have a team - lemme know! that's two riders so far now we need a sponsor, any takers??? Toohot it looks like we'll just have to suffer alone...
  19. so who wants to form a sub vets team here in the cape?? riding on your ace really hurts......oh the pain....
  20. and me too
  21. Thanks i'll be there....
